Today，an earnest passion for fashion can be found in a staggering number of people.Referring to the old days when simplicity and frugality played the central role，some doubt whether the pursuit of fashionable styles can lead to anything but unfavourable effects.As far as I am concerned，even though an excessive obsession with fashion should not be encouraged，each individual is entitled to choose according to his own taste and financial capability.

To begin with，social progress enables common citizens to love and pursue beauty.From a certain angle，the fashion industry is a dear child of the modern age.Contrary to the past when the supply of goods was insufficient and the purchasing power of people was comparatively weak，having only enough food to eat and enough clothing to keep warm can no longer satisfy the current demand of the masses.Dating back several decades，clothes were usually worn until they were ragged.Thanks to the development of sewing techniques and factory production systems，as well as to the proliferation of retail outlets，the clothing industry has marched into its most advanced stage ever.Blessed with multiple choices，the consumers can select whatever suits their tastes and preferences.“Vogue，”a popular fashion magazine founded in the United States，perfectly demonstrates the powerful influence fashion has had on the modern world.

Furthermore，the fashion industry contributes much to the economy.Normally，clothing is designed in one country，manufactured in another，and then distributed all over the world.Meanwhile，the updating pace of fashion has also sped up.Relevant data indicates that the world’s

textile sectors account for a significant share of the entire global economic output.Take China as an example.With effective reforms，its fashion industry has already completed the shift from quantity to quality.As the market grows，Chinese designers and brands，which used to be unknown to the world，have made their way into such fashion centres as Milan and New York.Apparently，the increase in the number of buyers has helped the economy prosper to a large degree.

Nevertheless，it is improper to attach too much importance to the luxury of fashion.In fact，there is every necessity to stress the merits of frugality.That is to say，the pursuit of fashion should never lead to the unwanted waste of money and resources.Nowadays，some wealthy people have formed the bad habit of throwing away the clothing or other products that are out of fashion in their eyes.Yet，these deserted objects are often still good in quality.The only reason for their extravagant behavior is that newer styles have just been released and they wish to be seen as trendy.Such an indifferent attitude produces negative impacts and thus should be avoided.

In summary，as long as their own purchasing capability allows it，people truly have the right to keep up with the trends by dressing themselves in fashionable clothes.Unless such traditional qualities as frugality are abandoned，cultivating a good sense of fashion will uplift the outer appearance and the inner spirit.At the same time，it also helps one gain appreciation from others，which can raise their confidence.Therefore，the phenomenon of pursuing fashion may not be totally negative.
