Have you ever seen some old buildings in the city? 你曾經(jīng)在城市中看到過古老建筑嗎？

Yes, I have seen a lot. At the moment, I am living in Luoyang, a city that has a history of more than 3000 years and used to serve as the capital of nine dynasties. There are numerous historical sites and relics here, and the government has poured tons of resources into their renovation and preservation to attract tourists and boost the economy.

我見過許多。如今，我居住在洛陽，一座擁有超過3000年歷史，并曾經(jīng)做過9個朝代的首都的城市。這里有大量的歷史遺跡，而政府也在它們的維護(hù)和翻新上投入了大量的資源以吸引游客，發(fā)展經(jīng)濟(jì)。

Do you think we should preserve old buildings in cities? 你認(rèn)為我們應(yīng)該保護(hù)城市里的古老建筑嗎？

I think the answer depends on their values. The urban population is soaring in many countries worldwide, and new migrants often struggle to find an affordable place to live in.  It is unreasonable or humane to keep all the old buildings in the city center. We must demolish some of them that cannot serve as tourist attractions to make place for high-rise apartments to accommodate the new arrivals.

Do you prefer living in an old building or a modern house? 你喜歡住在古老的建筑里還是現(xiàn)代的房子里？

Definitely a modern house. Despite their historical value, old buildings often have poor facilities. For example, the central heating system may be absent, making it extremely challenging to survive the freezing winter. By contrast, the modern house has everything I want, even the latest smart furniture. It is much more comfortable and convenient to live there.

絕對是現(xiàn)代的房子。盡管它們擁有歷史價值，古老建筑的設(shè)施往往很差。例如，中央暖氣系統(tǒng)可能缺失，讓寒冷的冬天變得十分難熬。相比之下，現(xiàn)代房子擁有一切我想要的一切，甚至最新的智能家居。住在那里要舒適和方便的多。

Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future? Why? 有什么未來你想去看的古老建筑嗎？為什么？

Yes, the summer palace in Beijing. It was built nearly 200 years ago and used to be the resort for emperors in Qing dynasty during the scorching summer. It has been repeatedly mentioned in our textbooks back in high school and is commented as “a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design” by UNESCO. It is a pity that I have been there.

是的，北京的頤和園。它修建于大約200年前，曾經(jīng)是清朝皇帝夏天的度假勝地。它在我高中時期的課本被反復(fù)提到，并被聯(lián)合國教科文組織評價為“中國園林設(shè)計的杰作”。很遺憾我還沒有去過那里。
