Well, recently I was lucky to have an opportunity to study in Boston University. But honestly speaking, I was a little bit terrified before I went to the United States. I was a little bit concerned that I might not get accustomed to the life there. But actually as a result, I found it was amazing. It was like a self-enlightening experience for me. I found a lot about who I was, being there by myself, and I became a lot more confident about everything, not just my English.
It' s a common theme from students who give up the comforts of home and campus to live and study on foreign soil and immerse themselves in their chosen country s culture. But actually I just came back changed. Some, even my friends admitted that I become(became) more mature and with a more wide-eyed view of the world.

I still remember when I took the TOEFL exam for the first time, my mark was awful, I totally lost confidence in doing a good job on the test, even doubted if my English was any good at all. My dad was the person that helped me through the tough time. First, instead of blaming or punishing me, he spent a lot of time going through the rating card with me to find out what went wrong and how I could improve. Next, he bought many useful books for me to prepare for the test. In the books, I found many sample questions and responses that gave me a good idea of what my answers should be like. He was very supportive in the process, thanks to my dad, I’m more confident this time around that I can do a better job.
托福口語機(jī)經(jīng)的用法
除了個(gè)別考試日期會(huì)出新題,一般考到的都是一兩年前某年某月某日在大陸或北美考過的老題,所以就會(huì)有機(jī)經(jīng)的廣泛流傳。參考機(jī)經(jīng)的好處有:
(1)可以利用機(jī)經(jīng)中還原的原題自己編出一個(gè)完整的回答,然后計(jì)時(shí)練習(xí),到考場(chǎng)上如果能碰上自己說過的題,勝算當(dāng)然大大增加。
(2)就算沒有正式練過,只要看過一兩遍的機(jī)經(jīng)題目就一定會(huì)在腦子里有印象:內(nèi)容是什么?學(xué)生的困難是什么?他為什么反對(duì)學(xué)校某項(xiàng)新政策?教授用了哪些例子來解釋某個(gè)概念?還有的一些以前沒見過的概念,比如大量的心理學(xué)專業(yè)術(shù)語(像什么primacyeffect,這個(gè)就是我考到的一篇學(xué)術(shù)話題)就可以提前熟悉,到了考場(chǎng)上聽到也不覺得難,反而更有把握了。
(3)網(wǎng)上流傳的大量機(jī)經(jīng)也不需要都看,比如我09年8月份考,就看08年6-10月這5個(gè)月的機(jī)經(jīng),把每一次考試的6個(gè)Task全部熟悉,挑出其中一些自己做答案,然后練習(xí),計(jì)時(shí)錄音。我當(dāng)時(shí)對(duì)心理學(xué)話題特別感興趣,課上也聽了不少,課下自己就把近幾年所有的心理學(xué)話題包括Task4和6的都看了,很有趣味性,一點(diǎn)都不枯燥,結(jié)果考試那天考到的2篇學(xué)術(shù)題全都是心理學(xué)的,我都見過,比較幸運(yùn)呵呵。從機(jī)經(jīng)整體來看心理學(xué)占的比重非常大,估計(jì)有1/3左右,所以我推薦從它練起,因?yàn)閮?nèi)容比較好玩,接受起來也很容易,而且記住了不會(huì)忘。
下面分Task來簡(jiǎn)單說一下我練的方法吧:
Task1&2:我最開始看的是Task1,2的分類機(jī)經(jīng),把經(jīng)??嫉降脑掝}分類,按照那些話題我會(huì)先把自己的答案要點(diǎn)簡(jiǎn)單地寫下來,可能就幾個(gè)單詞,大概有個(gè)思路就可以,這時(shí)的主要任務(wù)是大量看題,盡量拓寬自己的思路,就算遇到?jīng)]見過的題也不至于無話可說。到了要練習(xí)的階段,從自己考試范圍的機(jī)經(jīng)里選一些典型的題目拿來練。練之前先把主題句分論點(diǎn)的句子都寫好,第一遍計(jì)時(shí)就把這些句子套在模板里讀一遍。讀的時(shí)候控制語速,注意稍微快一點(diǎn),能說到8句長(zhǎng)句子為標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。這一遍可以錄音也可以不錄,我一般都錄下來然后和最后練好的效果進(jìn)行比對(duì),有時(shí)練過幾遍之后自己說的甚至比讀的都好,所以多練習(xí)絕對(duì)能提高~第二遍開始就要拋開自己寫的那些句子了,找一張白紙,把模板寫下來,關(guān)鍵詞部分留出空白,然后??奸_始,計(jì)時(shí)15秒自己往空白處填觀點(diǎn)和理由,一定要快,能填多少算多少,15秒過后立即開始說,不管寫沒寫完整,都要逼著自己說下來。第一遍說的時(shí)候肯定把自己惡心壞了,很多時(shí)候說兩句我就說不下去了,但是一定要逼著自己說完,哪怕都不是完整的句子。覺得實(shí)在惡心的可以不聽錄音,但是練到兩三遍的時(shí)候還是要聽自己說的情況,從錄音里能聽出自己的語速是不是太慢或發(fā)音清不清晰,哪些句子聽起來很別扭,那些理由太荒唐,這些都是需要自己發(fā)現(xiàn)并且改正的。給自己挑完毛病就想想怎么改,然后繼續(xù)說,直到有一遍自己說的答案完美到自己都感動(dòng)為止!在這里我對(duì)“完美”的定義就是,自己認(rèn)為這是超水平發(fā)揮了,有點(diǎn)驚喜原來自己也能說得這么好^^那時(shí)真的是很有成就感的。
關(guān)于Task2,事先一定想好一些“萬能理由”,不管題目問什么都可以拿來直接回答。我的萬能理由有
① improve communication skill ②new experience ③career preparation ④ broaden my horizon ⑤ make new friends… etc. 然后把相應(yīng)的句子多練幾遍,到了考場(chǎng)上直接一句接一句地說就OK了,我就是這么做的^^
用這個(gè)方法大量練過之后1,2題基本無敵了,剩下的3-6準(zhǔn)備起來更簡(jiǎn)單一些,因?yàn)椴挥米约喝ハ胝f什么,只要抓住閱讀材料和聽力內(nèi)容就可以了
Task3:閱讀材料只要看
①學(xué)校決定要干什么?(如:在圖書館大廳開設(shè)咖啡廳)②這么做的好處或理由?這部分在說的時(shí)候稍微提一下快速帶過就行,重點(diǎn)還是在聽力部分。聽力要聽好
①學(xué)生為什么贊同/反對(duì)?(一般還是反對(duì)意見居多)②TA為什么持該觀點(diǎn)?學(xué)校那么做有什么好/不好?
細(xì)節(jié)記清楚說清楚就可以了,在語言上只要說通順,沒太大的語病就行,不用多漂亮多華麗。做筆記的時(shí)候我推薦分兩欄記,男左女右,中間用一條豎線隔開,男的說一句話就寫在左邊,女的對(duì)此有回應(yīng)就寫在右邊平行處,新內(nèi)容就繼續(xù)豎著往下寫。像是直立的時(shí)間軸一樣的,這樣看起來很清晰,也不會(huì)把兩人的觀點(diǎn)搞混。
Task4:閱讀的時(shí)候看是什么學(xué)術(shù)概念,它的定義是什么,或者可以分成哪兩類。聽的時(shí)候就聽教授是如何舉例說明這個(gè)理論的,一般都是兩個(gè)例子,多數(shù)是教授自己的(一般都是正面例子)和他朋友的(多為反面例子)。
Task5:最好準(zhǔn)備的一道題,卻是我發(fā)揮的最差的一道…聽力只要聽清學(xué)生的困難是什么,有哪些可選擇的解決方案。注意解決方案不論是對(duì)方提的還是這個(gè)有困難的學(xué)生自己突然悟出來的,都要答出來,并且要記住每個(gè)方案的好或不好之處,當(dāng)事人往往都會(huì)有明顯的選擇傾向的。有些方案直接在對(duì)話中就被否定了,那么表達(dá)自己觀點(diǎn)的時(shí)候盡量就別選這個(gè)方案了。這道題很不推薦王京竹老師的模板結(jié)構(gòu),他主張前面只列舉各個(gè)方案而不給出具體好壞的評(píng)價(jià),因?yàn)檫@樣可以把它放到表達(dá)自己觀點(diǎn)的時(shí)候再說,否則有些優(yōu)缺點(diǎn)就得重復(fù)說了。我就是按他的方法練的,但最后發(fā)現(xiàn)有些不合理,但在考場(chǎng)上沒來得及改正,說的有點(diǎn)亂。這樣說的壞處在于前面的內(nèi)容太單薄,列舉完解決方案就沒得說了,經(jīng)常還剩20多秒,接下來說自己的觀點(diǎn),可是自己只能選一個(gè)自認(rèn)為最合理的方案說,它的優(yōu)點(diǎn)倒是很容易說出來,但時(shí)間往往還富裕10秒8秒的,很麻煩,可是如果想再把每個(gè)方案的優(yōu)缺點(diǎn)說一遍時(shí)間又不夠…最后造成的結(jié)果就是有些解決方案沒能給出好還是不好的評(píng)價(jià),造成回答不完整。所以我推薦列舉解決方案時(shí),每說一個(gè)方案就順帶著用從句也好簡(jiǎn)單句也好把它的可行性或者優(yōu)缺點(diǎn)簡(jiǎn)單提一下,最后在自己的觀點(diǎn)里再次強(qiáng)調(diào)某一方案的絕對(duì)優(yōu)越。只要把句式換一換就不會(huì)顯得重復(fù)累贅,而且時(shí)間應(yīng)該是剛剛好的。
