范文
Seeing this topic, I would like to tell you about the Yangtze river that is more than 6000km long. It is the longest river in Asia and the third-longest in the world. If I'm not wrong, it is even the longest in the world to flow entirely within one country which drains one-fifth of the land area of China.
In China, the whole river is known as Chang Jiang, which literally translates to “Long River”. It plays a large role in the history, culture and economy of my country, its river basin is home to nearly one third of the country’s population. Many people depend on it in their daily lives, even until today. The river originates from several tributaries in the eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau. It has long been the backbone of china's inland water transportation system that remained particularly important for almost two thousand years, until the construction of the national railway network during the 20th century. The Grand Canal connects the lower Yangtze with the major cities of the Jiangnan region south of the river and with northern China.
In a nutshell, Yangtze river is important to my country. I can’t even imagine how the people's lives would be if anything had happened to it.
Do you ever use a map?
Yeah I do. I mean, I often use a GPS when I’m driving somewhere that I’m not familiar with, and I find it super helpful, because I don’t have a very good sense of direction!
When do you use a map?
Let me have a little think… umm….when do I use a map….umm…. oh yeah, I guess the time when I most often use a map is when I’m on holiday somewhere, because I find it helps give me a better understanding of the place, and also saves me from getting lost.
Who taught you to use a map?
I don’t actually think anyone taught me how to use a map, you know, I kind of just figured it out for myself. And I’ve never really had a problem understanding them because they tend to be pretty self-explanatory, (at least for me anyway).
Do you prefer to use electronic maps or those made of paper?
I’d say I generally prefer using electronic ones, because they basically have more functions. For example, if you’re not sure how to get somewhere, electronic maps will be able to actually highlight the best route to take, and (not just that, but they) also give you detailed timings for each part of the journey, which is something that paper maps can’t really do.
Have you ever asked others for directions?
Yeah, sure I have, and I think it’s fair to say most people have at some stage or other. You know, asking others for directions can save a lot of time wandering around getting hopelessly lost, and I’ve always found people to be very helpful whenever I’ve asked them how to get somewhere.
Describe an important letter that you received.
You should say:
who wrote it
what the letter was about
how you felt about the letter
and explain why it was important.
Ok, well I suppose one of the most important letters I’ve received was an offer letter from a university I applied to – Leeds University, to be precise – so that’s what I think I’ll talk about.
And as for who the letter was from, well, I can't quite remember the name of the actual person who wrote it, I’m afraid, but if I’m not mistaken, it was sent by the university admissions office, who I guess are responsible for handling such matters.
Anyway, regarding what the letter was about, well basically, it was just informing me that I had been accepted onto their Master’s program in Finance, so it was really great news for me, because this was the course that I most wanted to study, and out of all the various universities that I applied to, Leeds was definitely top of my list, as it was the one that most appealed to me, in terms of both the course content and social life.
So, as you can imagine, I was over the moon after receiving the offer. I mean, it felt like all the years of hard work I’ve put into my studies seemed to have finally paid off, so it was like a dream come true for me, it really was.
And finally then, with regard to why this letter was important, well, I think it goes without saying that it was extremely important, because essentially, it means that I’m gonna be able to study abroad, which I’m sure will have a huge impact on my future career, as it will hopefully enable me to apply for jobs which I wouldn’t have otherwise been considered for.
And as well as this, I reckon that studying abroad will help me become more mature and independent, which I’ve noticed has happened with a few of my friends who have spent some time abroad, and I’m sure this’ll have a positive effect on my life in general.
So it’s a big opportunity for me, and I’m really looking forward to it!
