1. Is food important to you?
Yes, I have a healthy appetite. You know, different types of food can provide enough fibre, vitamins and minerals, and these are essential for our body to work properly and enable us to have the energy to work or study.
2. What foods do you usually eat?
Well, I love to eat fast food, which is timesaving and economical, as I don’t need to wait in a queue and it can cut my budget on food. However, I’ve heard that eating junk food on a daily basis will certainly cause obesity and other chronic disease, so now I’d like to cut down the times on having McDonald’s or stuff like that.
3. What kind of food do you particularly like?
Well, I’m crazy about dessert. I normally go to the coffeehouse to have high teas. Having a cup of refreshing drink and some tea dessert like muffin and croissant is helpful to keep me in good mood in the afternoon. Though these foods contain high calories, I’ve no attempt to resist these dainty foods.
4. Is there any food you don’t like?
Yes, I don’t eat meat. I’m a vegetarian and believed that eating meat is brutal to animals and is harmful to our health. Clearly, the overconsumption of red meat may cause high blood glucose levels and lead to diabetes.
5. Do you think it’s good to take children to restaurants?
Well, it’s not appropriate to take children to eat outside on a regular basis, because they may consequently get adapted to it and reluctant to eat home-cooked meals, which is normally prepared under sanitary conditions. Therefore, parents should avoid children’s bad eating habit.

I'd like to tell you about my first experience of Japanese cuisine. This story took place about five or six years ago now, when I was dating my ex-girlfriend. One evening, she invited me to eat out with her and a few of her female friends at this Japanese restaurant. At first, I was a bit reluctant to go, partly because I hadn't met any of her friends at that time and I'm not that great around new people, but mainly because I'm a fussy eater. There's nothing worse than eating out, dying of hunger because you'd skipped lunch so you wouldn't spoil your appetite, and then not liking the food you order or anything on the menu. My then-girlfriend persuaded me to go, but I told her I probably wouldn't like anything. The restaurant was nice. It had a Japanese theme but I think everyone working there was Chinese. We went in, sat down and thought about what to have. When I was looking at the menu, nothing took my fancy so I let the girls choose my meal, which was rice and some seafood like prawns and salmon; I think it was all or partly raw. The girls started tucking into their food but I just ended up playing with mine. I was starving, I could have eaten a horse, but I just picked at mine, mainly eating the rice, which had no flavour to it, and little bites of fish with my glass of water to wash it down. If I'd had my way, we would have gone somewhere else, to a place where I could have stuffed my face. I haven't had Japanese food since and I don't have any intention of trying it again.
Describe a foreign food you ate
what it is
how do you know it
where you can eat it
why you like it
The food is quite simple that that I like to have as a special treat from time to time. I’ve always thought of it as a Greek speciality, although others tell me it actually originates from Egypt. Can you guess what it is? Houmous. I love it.
Basically, it is made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It is popular throughout the Middle East (including Turkey), North Africa (including Morocco), and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe, but it is also extremely popular with me, although I’m very particular about the sort I buy. I live near a wonderful delicatessen, it is run by a friendly couple, he is Italian and she is vintage Yorkshire. They make their own houmous with only the finest quality virgin olive oil and huge quantities of the best fresh garlic they can get hold of. It’s pretty expensive, but I love it, and it’s better than my own attempts for some reason, I don’t know why it shouldn’t be so hard to make.
Why do I like it? I think it is partly the texture, and partly the taste, I love garlic. Also, because I’m vegetarian it is a very healthy food, with lots of protein and quality fats that are good for you. Of course, you can have too much of a good thing, but I think it’s well worth it.
It is my favourite food not only because it is absolutely delicious, but also because you can share it with other people. It is best eaten as a dip, with friends. I cut up lots of carrots, cucumber and celery into crudités carefully sliced to make a colourful dish, perhaps with some slices of warm pitta bread too. A nice bottle of white wine helps. We can then all sit together enjoying the fresh humous dip, sipping our glasses of wine and laughing and talking to put the world to rights. It is a great way to enjoy a fabulous food.
