My favourite food is fried rice with vegetable and chicken curry with salad. This is in fact the most popular menu in our country. The rice is first boiled in water and then the boiled rice is fried with some chicken and vegetables and oil. The chicken curry is prepared separately using some spices and chicken and finally the salad is prepared using different vegetables and fruits and then those are cup into pieces and mixed together with mustard. Then these three items are served together.
I eat this menu approximately 3-4 times in a week. This menu is prepared at home mostly and sometimes I eat it in a restaurant. There are some variations in the way this food is prepared and the ingredients using which this food is made. Different restaurants have their own specialty in preparing and serving this menu.
This is my favourite food for many reasons: firstly it is very delicious and healthy. This menu meets the demand for different food values our body needs. It is available in most of the part in our country. Thirdly, I like it as it offers the variations of tastes. Moreover, it is not that much expensive to prepare and does not require o much effort to prepare. For all these reasons it is my favourite food.

Well, a person in the news that I want to meet is an old man, Bai fangli. He was a very ordinary person, a nobody. If you meet him on the street you might never pay even a glimpse to him. 6 years ago, he was nominated as the top 100 figures of China in a Chinese TV programme called “Moving China”, mainly because of his extraordinary contribution to the society. The news I saw was on CCTV3 four years ago, when I was in high school, saying that Mr. Bai was given a special prize in Moving China again, and that was exactly the time I knew this old respectable man. In the news, I learned the story of Bai fangli. An old man who lived on a menial job, pedicab driver, for 60 years but saved more than 350 thousand RMB and donated it to the charity and successfully sponsored more than 300 students from disadvantaged families to finish tertiary education, helping with their tuition fee and living expense. When I saw that news, I was shocked and I even doubted it, I mean people are nowadays busy with their own stuff and are less likely to care about others, I mean, they are getting more and more indifferent. And, the connection between neighbors and even relatives is getting weaker and weaker. How could it be possible for a person to give out all his savings helping people he barely knew? But, his story turned out to be a truth as my mom told me that a friend of her has received the fund given by Mr. Bai and finished his education. Sadly, Mr. Bai passed away several years ago, I will never have the chance to meet him in person but I have to say if I were given the chance I would like to talk to him and show my respect and gratitude. The reason is quite simple, just because of that piece of new I started to do unpaid work in community and deliver the positive energy I got from Mr. Bai. I am proud of what I am doing and who I am now.
1. Do you like dancing?
It’s ok I suppose, but I wouldn’t say I particularly like it, because first of all, I’m not very good at it, and secondly, I prefer to just listen to music instead of dance to it.
2. Would you like to learn dancing in the future?
I suppose it would be quite nice to learn, yeah, for example, breakdancing, which looks pretty cool when it’s done well! And also if I had some classes, I wouldn’t embarrass myself every time I got onto the dance floor! So yeah, I guess it is something that I’d quite like to do at some stage in the future, although I don’t know if it will ever actually materialize.
3. Where do Chinese people like to go dancing?
Um… let me have a little think…. I suppose one of the most popular places to go is an outdoor square, where you'll often see people doing line-dancing there, especially in the early morning or evening. And uh... where else...? Um... oh yeah, places like discos and clubs, which I guess is the same around the world.
4. Did you like to dance when you were a child?
Um… let me think back to when I was a child… hang on a second please! …Um…Yeah, I did actually quite like dancing, you know, and I think probably the reason was that I wasn’t at all self-conscious when I danced, which I am now, I have to admit! So I mean, as a child, I wasn’t really preoccupied with how I looked in front of others, so that made it a lot more enjoyable.
4. When was the last time you danced?
Jeez– it was ages ago! I honestly can’t remember. Um… I suppose it must have been, like, two or three years ago, but that’s a complete guess, cos it’s just been such a long time!
Describe an important conversation.
You should say:
when it was
who was in the conversation
what it is about
and explain why it is important.
When I was a kid, I was hardly a model student. I had an older brother who was a bit of a rebel, he’d go out drinking and smoking and causing trouble, and I guess some of his bad behaviour rubbed off on me.
I can remember when I was a teenager, I must have been around 17, I had taken my university entrance exam but my grades were dismal. My parents were distraught, they had had such high hopes for me and I remember my mum being in floods of tears. My dad sat me down and we had a long conversation about my future and the direction I was heading in. He calmly told me I had a second chance to repeat the test and make my family proud. He said that I should take a long, hard look at myself and picture where I wanted to be in 10 years time.
At first I dug in my heels, but eventually my father’s words sank in and I realised I needed to knuckle down and study. I hit the books hard and over the course of the year I was more and more prepared. In the end, I got a good grade and was able to attend university.
I feel like that was one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had. I knew that he was speaking from the heart and that I couldn’t disappoint him any longer. My dad’s words of wisdom were a real wake-up call and it turned out to be a major turning point in my life.
