Describe a house or apartment that you have (recently) visited去過(guò)的房子或公寓。
You should say:
- Where it was (or is)
- When you visited it
– What it looked like
And explain why you visited it.
Ok then, well the place that I’d like to talk to you about was actually a show home that I went to visit with my parents, which was in a newly developed (off-plan) apartment not far from the CBD. And I suppose it must have been about two or three weeks ago when we went there.
As for why we went there, well it was simply because we’re thinking of buying a flat (an apartment) as an investment. You know for Chinese, this is a very common thing to do, because investing in property is seen as being relatively risk-free. And some friends of ours who had already been there to have a look recommended that we also check it out .So we thought, why not!
Anyway, with regard to what the flat/apartment looked like, well basically, it was really nicely decorated, as you can probably imagine, what with it being a show home and all. For example, the floor was mostly marble, and there was a huge chandelier hanging above the dining table. So yeah, it all looked pretty impressive. I mean, even the wallpaper was nice, you know, it was, um… I’m not quite sure how to best describe it, but you could just tell it was really good quality from the feel and texture of it.
The only downside was the price, because I think it was something like ten grand a square meter, so the whole flat came to about 720K ($720,000), or somewhere thereabouts, which was a bit above our budget unfortunately!
Describe an interesting house or apartment that you visited.
You should say:
where it was;
whose home it was;
what it looked like;
and explain why you think it was interesting.
I visited a pretty interesting house last summer. It is called Chengqilou. It is located in Fujian Province. It is an earthen round building and it covers a large area. It has two main gates and two side gates. The wall is very thick and stable. The tour guide there told me that it was built in 1709 and now it is listed as a world heritage. All together it has four stories and each story has 72 rooms.
The ground floor rooms are kitchens. The second floor is used to store grains. The third and forth floor rooms are living rooms and bedrooms. People who live in the earthen building are usually sharing the same surname. They choose to live together so that they can take good care of the clan and protect themselves from intruders.
I first saw the earthen building in a television program. Several celebrities took their sons and daughters there and spent a few nights. I was deeply attracted by this particular building. I found it pretty interesting. The building fully uses the scarce flat in mountainous areas. And different from common buildings which face to the same direction to the outside, the rooms in the earthen building all face to the interior and thus make up a large round building. No wonder it has attracted so many tourists.
1. Where are you living, in a flat or a house?
I am living in a flat, not huge or posh, but cozy and warm. I always believe that in terms of a place, it is not important how spacious or luxurious it is, it is important whether I can get a sense of belonging from it or not. It is what makes a place a home.
而且這里還有值得我們參考的詞匯運(yùn)用: huge or posh; cozy and warm; spacious or luxurious; spacious or luxurious.
2. Where do young guys usually live in China, in flats or houses?
The vast majority of young guys in China live in flats, but it depends on their incomes. If they are terribly posh(很有錢(qián)), they can definitely afford those luxurious houses; but to common people, houses are not something they can afford.
3. What are the differences between flats and houses?
There are so many differences between flats and houses. For starters, as far as the definition is concerned, a house is a building which usually has more than one floor and is intended to be used by one family(此句話短語(yǔ)運(yùn)用多樣,而且是定語(yǔ)從句的典型代表,加上more than的使用更是句子顯得高級(jí)). A flat is a place for people to live that consists of a set of rooms that are part of a larger building(賓語(yǔ)從句).
4. What can you see from the windows of your flat?
My flat is on the 30th floor, which offers me a panoramic view of the whole community(整個(gè)小區(qū)的全景): the fountains, statues, trees, flowers and green grass. And when night falls, with all the lights on, the view is breathtaking!
1. Which room do you love most in your flat?
2. Is there anything needs to be improved in your flat?
3. Do you want to move?
4. Who does the housework in your family?
5. Why do Chinese love to hang paintings on the walls of their flats?
6. What colour would you like to paint your flat? Explain why.
7. What can you see on the walls of your flat?
Do you like a house or a flat/apartment?
范例:As far as I’m concerned, I like the house. I like the house of my uncle. This is really one luxurious villa in the country side of Hangzhou . You know, the climate and weather of Hangzhou is totally different from that of Beijing , because it is in the southeast of China . The rainy and warm weather enable many trees and grass grows well and my uncle’s villa is just located in the midst of trees and bamboo.
I really like the tall, gentle and slim bamboo around the villa. You can never see this green bamboo in Beijing . In spring, summer and autumn, you can see many little animals and lovely birds appear around the villa. And in summer, my uncle and his family members have the good opportunity to prevent themselves from the scorching sunlight because of the shadow. In the spring, they can even collect many bamboo shoots to make some delicious dishes. The villa is large. It has two floors.
It has 7 rooms, 2 bath rooms, one reading room, one spacious kitchen, one gymnasium room. The family members live on the second floor and the first floor is for entertainment, meeting guests and dinner,etc. I like the gymnasium room because there is one snooker table, thus I can play some snooker with my uncle. In every room, there is the access to the Internet, thus every summer vacation when I stay there in the villa, I can browse the Internet.
At night, I can have a drink with the family members and chat our different life in Beijing and Hangzhou , and then when I sleep there, it is very quiet without the noise of the city. I like the feeling. That is the world of my self.
Why do you think some people invest a huge amount of money in buying houses?
范例:A house actually speaks a lot about the person who lives inside it. Some people invest a huge amount of money to buy a house because it is a reflection of how much they have achieved. Some people are willing to shell out a large sum of money because they would like to enjoy a quality and comfortable home with their family. After all, who would not want to take comfort in a nice and pleasant house after a tiring and stressful day?
Should we live in a flat or in a house?
范例:Whether to live in a flat or in a house would actually depend on the lifestyle of the resident. It would be practical for a single professional who just comes home to sleep, take a shower and go to work to live in a flat for his own convenience. But it would be advisable for a family especially with children to live in a house as they will more likely be able to make full use of the space and the rooms. Of course, needless to say that we must live in a place where our budget could afford.
