范文
Well, I remember when I was six years old, a friend of my father’s sent me a series of books named Hundred Thousand Whys, and these books later tuned to be something invaluable throughout my childhood.
These books are divided into different themes, among which are culture, science, nature, arts etc. In each book, it tells many different interesting stories attached to its main theme. What I like most about these books, is that each and every page of whichever one of them, has some delicately painted illustrations. Even though I hadn’t known many words yet at that time, I could still figure out what the contents were about with the help of those vividly drawn cartoon pictures. I can still remember one story that tells about tomatoes. According to the book, tomatoes were regarded poisonous when first discovered by people and thus were only used for ornamentation. But then, a brave painter ate one tomato and found it extremely delicious. He then announced to the public that tomatoes were not poisonous at all. It was until then the tomatoes became something widely seen in people’s daily dishes. Interesting and educational at the same time, right? Well, there are actually a lot of other stories like that, which I liked very much as a young girl.
As for why I like them, well, I’d have to say that, this whole series of books was really an eye-opener to me. It showed me what the world out there actually looked like, and told me many interesting stories behind the things closely related to our daily life. It showed me how to look at this world from a different approach. My curiosity was totally fired up by these books, which later resulted in my choosing science as my major in university.
Anyway, I had a wonderful time with the company of these exciting books throughout my childhood, and I do want to thank my father’s friend for giving me such a great chance to explore what the world is truly like at a young age.
雅思口語(yǔ)保持健康話題
Describe an activity you do to keep fit.
You should say:
what you do
when you started doing it
how much time you spend doing it
and explain how this activity helps you keep fit.
Well, I’m sure I’m not the only one guilty of owning a gym membership that sits gathering dust in a drawer somewhere. I get my exercise mainly from cycling.
I can’t remember exactly when I started cycling, but it was when I was around 5 or 6 years old. My dad taught me by pushing me down a hill and wishing me luck! There were a few bumps and bruises to begin with, but eventually I was riding all by myself and you know what they say, 'you never forget how to ride a bike'.
I lack the motivation to go to the gym regularly, but I can fit cycling into my daily routine seamlessly. What’s more, I never get bored of being in the saddle. I ride to and from work and sometimes go out for longer rides on my days off. In fact, it’s not unheard of for me to slip on a pair of Lycra shorts and take a 50 or 60 mile jaunt on a weekend.
Cycling is a great way to keep fit as it burns calories and there is less impact on your joints than other sports, such as running. As well as my body, cycling could help my mind. Some people say it helps you sleep longer and more deeply, in addition to reducing stress, all of which can only be a good thing.

Describe a team you were part of.

who else participated in it

and explain why you became part of the team.
I was an enthusiastic member of the student union while I was at university. My university was founded in 1950 and the union had existed for many years, but obviously there was a turnover of members as students graduated.
Besides myself, the union consisted of a number of my fellow classmates and some students from other departments. It was nice to mingle with people outside of my department and make friends in different circles. Despite this, I was especially glad that my good friend Tina was also an active member, so we could chat and see each other without our union commitments getting in the way.
The role of the union was to organize student events, for instance the end of year party or certain competitions like the annual drama contest. The biggest occasion I had a hand in was the university’s 50th Anniversary, where we threw an elaborate party, with dancers and fireworks and even some VIP guest speakers.
At first, I had little to no interest in joining the union, but prospect of seeing Tina more regularly was a real incentive for me, not to mention I thought it would look good on my résumé in the future. It turned out to be a great choice as everyone welcomed me with open arms and I made friends that I plan to keep in contact with for the rest of my life.
