Okay, I’d like to share with you a TV series I’ve been watching these days called 13 reasons why.

It’s like, em, last month, I got instantly intrigued(吸引) by a recommendation from a famous blogger(博主), saying this show was rated 8.8 out of 10on IMDB(打分高達(dá)8.8. Then, for the past month, I quickly finished the whole season(季), 13 episodes(集). Actually, this TV drama is based on a best-selling book(暢銷書(shū)), depicting(刻畫) a story after teenager Clay Jensen found a mysterious box with his name on. Inside he discovered a group of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker-his classmate who tragically committed suicide(自殺) several weeks earlier. On these tapes, Hannah unfolded(展開(kāi)/呈現(xiàn)) an emotional audio diary(有聲日記), detailing the thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life.

I guess the reason why I quite enjoy this teen series (青少年電視劇) is, to my surprise, it made me think a lot about life, about how our different behaviors may cause negative effects to others we interact with. Seeing Hannah suffering from confusion and desperation(迷茫和絕望) the whole time, I really hope someone like her classmates or parents could give her a helping hand(幫助她). Sadly, nobody read her mind(了解她的心思) successfully and chose to leave her alone when she said so. I know somehow it’s also Hannah herself who pushed away those who wanted to be close to her.

Anyway, I have to say committing suicide is a super reckless decision(輕率的決定). Just like one guy in the show said: suicide is for the weak. Instead of hiding or ignoring the problem, the better way to deal with depression is to go get help from others, telling them directly what you’re really experiencing.

Hopefully, this show could give us some insights(給我們一些啟示) into cracking many of the problems(解決問(wèn)題) that high schoolers(高中生) are facing, like suicide, school bullying(校園霸凌), drug abuse(毒品), and etc.

You should say:

How does it look like

Where did you see it

When did you see it

And how do you feel about this work

2.主題:Power

Okay, so recently I’ve been watching “Power” – a TV series about a guy who comes from a poor neighborhood and makes a lot of money selling drugs – and then he decides that he wants to go legit; he wants to leave his past behind and make a legitimate business with his nightclub Truth. So, the series follows the problems he and his family have to face while trying to get out of the drug business and make a legal living running clubs. Obviously, it’s not as easy as it might sound – because all his old friends still try to involve him in drug trafficking, and there always seems to be some crisis or something which stops the guy from simply making a clean break and starting afresh.

A friend of mine recommended the series; I hadn’t heard of it before, but I gave it a try. Watching a couple of episodes, and I kind of liked it. Each episode has good pacing, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention. The plot is also quite well written and has just enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will happen next. Another thing I like about it is that the things that happen are credible; they’re not fantastically impossible scenarios like in some TV series – you can actually imagine how such circumstances might occur in real life and how these people would deal with them. So, the main characters are a guy called Jaimie and his wife Tasha and their two children, and Jaimie’s ex-drug partner Tommy Egan, who is still involved in the drug business. The other main character is government lawyer, Angela Valdez, who has an affair with Jaimie while the special task force she is a member of is trying to prosecute Jaimie and Tommy for drug related crimes. There are some other characters which recur throughout each episode, people who work in the club and other friends and contacts that appear repeatedly throughout the series.

It’s now in season four, although I haven’t watched this current season yet – I watched up until the end of season three, so I guess I’ll catch up with it when I have some more free time. I like watching the episodes all at once rather than one each week. But it’s one of the best TV series I’ve seen for a while – the fact that the time flies past while watching it is always a good sign that it’s enjoyable.

Describe a television drama series you have watched

What kind of TV series it is

闡述:最近有一部很火的中國(guó)電視連續(xù)劇,叫“人民的名義”(英文:In the name of people)。

Who the main characters are

What it is about

What part do you like most

我還沒(méi)看完所有的劇集,但是目前最讓我記憶深刻的是前兩集(the very first two episodes)。

And explain why you like to watch it

Describe a TV program you like

You should say:

What the TV program is

How you know it

What it is like

Why you like it

The program I am going to talk about is a TV series called criminal minds. The first time I saw it can be traced back to 6 years ago when I was browsing Douban, a TV series ranking website. This drama was at the top of the list, getting a score of 9.5 out of 10. I thought there must be something good in it. So I downloaded it and began watching.

At the first sight, I was absorbed. Unlike other crime series, which focus on the crime itself and the process to discover evidence, this one concentrates on the psychological journey of the suspect. What prompts him to generate the ideas to break the law and what triggers him to put these terrible ideas into practice. Every episode begins with a murder. Then the agents from FBI would go to the crime scene and collect clues, based on which, they would deduct the psychological feature and behavior pattern of the criminal. Then they narrow the scope of the search and catch the bad guy.

This series probes into the dark side and contradiction of human nature, revealing that a criminal is not born to be a criminal, but cultivated to be one by the environment. That is why I like it.
