Advertising is ubiquitous(廣告，n). Wherever you go, you are likely to see or hear some forms of advertising, usually for a certain product or service. In fact, some adverts are used to raise public awareness or to educate people. As I see it, most commercial adverts(廣告，n) should be placed under strict control or banned.

For one thing, advertisements often withhold(拒絕給, vt) the truth from the public. In order to sell more products, advertisements are designed with no concern for the truth. Some of them are outrageous(無法容忍的, adj) lies, while most of them exaggerate(夸大，v) the benefits and hide or downplay the drawbacks(缺點, n) of a certain product. Consumers can’t see the whole picture. Being given to impulsive(沖動的, adj) actions and inexperienced in worldly affairs, young people are often the first to fall victim to those misleading adverts.

For another, most adverts advocate an unhealthy way of life. In most newspaper advertisements or TV commercials people are depicted as leading an exciting and romantic life. Attractive men and women can transform their lives after they used such and such products. But real life is not like that. Daily life is apt to(傾向于) be much simpler and uneventful. As it often happens, young people often get too carried away by thedaily onslaught of advertising and become unsatisfied with their lives. They startto try out various products,imitate(模仿，vt) the trendy lifestyle portrayed incommercials and squander(浪費, v) time and money on luxuries.

Additionally, advertising adds to the anxiety(焦急, n) of the young. Already under lots of pressure, the young are being told all kinds of problems they are to have if they don’t use certain products or services. You are going to lose your attraction to your husband if you don’tuse your perfume; you are going to lose your health if you don't take our calcium tablets(鈣片) three times a day. What a bunch of lies! Indeed, it is widely agreed that many so called “diseases” are created by advertisers-they try to find some problems with us at first and then offer the solution with their products. It is nothing more than a tricky business strategy.

This kind of investment in terms of time and money seems to have given sufficient proof to the value of college education. The claim can be justified only in a narrow sense. It is true that college graduates are experiencing trouble landing decent(體面的, adj) jobs and that the financial return of the investment in college education seems to be declining. It is also said that many students play truant(逃避責(zé)任者，n) regularly and only cram(填滿, v) before final exams. They attend a university only to get a degree or even to have a good time. Yet, all these are simply the students' own fault or that of poor education quality. A good educations is always invaluable.

College is a place where once can pursue(追求, vt) one's own interests. There are professors to guide and inspire you; there are laboratories to provide first-hand experience; there are numerous books waiting to beperused(細(xì)讀， v). Prior to college, students often focus on acquiring a general knowledge of various subjects, but college allows them to dive into their majors. Deep and enduring interest can never be cultivated(有教養(yǎng)的， adj) by merely scratching the surface. Besides, students are grouped with like-minded classmates, the interaction with who adds impetus to their academic pursuit. By talking, sharing and cooperating with one's peers, one often gets inspired and encouraged and acquires a different perspective.

Education can bring personal improvement in ways other than scholastic achievement. Look at the huge difference between the educated and illiterate. Education is not merely the imparting of knowledge but also the cultivation of the mind, with the latter being more intangible and subtle(敏感的&微妙的，adj). The uneducated tend to be ill-mannered rude or even vulgar. We acquire our moral sense when we are taught the heroic deeds of great men and the atrocities(暴行，n) caused by evil ones. Left to ourselves, we often subscribe to the pragmatic view of 'ends justify means' and regard nobility and sacrifice as hypocritical(偽善的，adj).

Therefore, instead of losing its value, education will become all the more essential in a world where we are in danger of being overwhelmed by the conflicts and competitions among ourselves.

However, telling lie,despite its negative effects, sometimes is essential in our daily life. First, the liar itself will benefit from the lie by escaping from the pressure of unnecessary embarrassment. On the other hand, the listener will feel more comfortable by reasonable excuses. For example, if a little girl’s farther died in an accident, her mother would comfort her by saying" farther has gone to another beautiful land". In such cases, a lie with original goodwill is like a naught angel who might make the cruel nice. Furthermore, To some extent, the skills of telling lie can be regard as a capacity of creation and imagination.

Taking all those factors into consideration, we can definitely come to the conclusion that whether telling lie is harmful depends on its original intention and the ultimate result it will bring. If one is honest with oneself, one always learns from mistakes, can correct a concept or a hypothesis and work further, and reach the goal finally.
