Describe a job you want to do in the future(未來的工作)
1.Is it easy to find work (employment) in your country?
Well, it really depends on what kind of jobs you’re looking for. Like, if you want to work in state companies, it’s quite hard to get in, since you have to have relationships and connections, people who introduce you for the job, but for something in private companies, it’s quite easy actually, as long as you have a college degree and some relevant working experience, it’s a piece of cake.
2.What changes have there been in recent years in employment in your country?
I think there have been many changes in the types of jobs that people do nowadays compared to 20 or 30 years ago. First of all there are much fewer jobs related to heavy industry such as mining or ship-building or even manufacturing. Secondly, there has been a big increase in the number of jobs in the service and leisure industries like shops, gyms, and hotels. And finally, since the launch of the internet there has been a big surge in the number of jobs related to IT, such as web development and design.
3.What jobs pay the highest salary in your country?
Well, I’m not exactly that sure, but my guess would be that things like banking and real estate are probably the sectors which pay the highest, because I mean, there's so much money invested in property here in China, so the salary's bound to be pretty good if you work in real estate. And as for banking, well, I think it goes without saying that most jobs related to banking are relatively highly-paid, which is one of the main reasons why so many graduates here wanna find a job in a bank!
4.Do you think changing jobs is a positive thing to do?
Yeah, I'd say it's perfectly fine to change jobs. I mean, I can't see any point in doing one job throughout your whole career if you're bored out of your wits! So for me I would say the main thing is to be passionate about your job, and if at any point you start to lose enthusiasm in what you're doing, then it might be a good time to consider moving on and doing something else.
1. When was the last time you did something in a hurry?
Um… when was it?...Let me have a think…I guess it was probably um… a few weeks ago, when I was on holiday, and I had booked a taxi to arrive at the place where I was staying, at about noon-ish, and I still had some clearing up to do, you know, I didn’t want to leave the place in a mess. So yeah, I was basically in a hurry tidying everything up and getting all my things packed before the taxi arrived.
2. Do you like to finish things quickly?
Yeah I do, cos I really don’t like things to hang over me, you know, it’s just not a nice feeling when you’ve got stuff to do hanging at the back of your mind. So I like to get stuff done as quickly as I can,but saying that, I still want to do it well of course! I mean, I’m not gonna do something haphazardly just to get it done quickly, I still wanna make sure I do it well!
3. What kinds of things do you never do in a hurry?
It’s an interesting question!... I’ve never really thought about that one! What kinds of things will I never do in a hurry?...um… I suppose things I would never do in a hurry would be important things, like coursework which counts towards my final grade, and what else?...I’m kind of hard pressed to think! Um… oh yeah, getting to the airport to catch a flight! You know, I’ll always give myself lots of time to get there, even if it means I arrive at the airport several hours in advance, cos it just gives me peace of mind. I mean, if you miss a flight, then your holiday’s probably gone down the drain, so it can be pretty disastrous!
4. Why do people make mistakes more easily when they are in a hurry?
Um… well thinking about it, I suppose it’s simply because when people are in a hurry, they’re not really thinking clearly. You know, their mind’s kind of um.. how can I put it… I guess you could say flustered, thinking about lots of things at the same time, and not really being focused. So in that state of mind, I think you’d agree it’s easy to overlook things, especially small details, which will likely lead to mistakes being made!
Describe a magazine or newspaper that you like to read.
You should say:
what magazine or newspaper it is
what the magazine or newspaper is about
how often you read it
and explain why you like to read it.
Ok then, I'm going to describe a newspaper that I like reading, and it's actually one of Hangzhou's local papers called the Morning Express. The reason I started reading this particular paper is basically because it came free with my digital TV subscription, so it would be a bit of a waste if I didn't read it!
Anyway, as for what the newspaper is about, well, it actually covers quite a range of news, such as current affairs, business, sports, local and national news, you name it! But I'd say it essentially focuses on regional news, because after all, it is just a local paper, which, as far as I know, is only circulated in and around Hangzhou.
And with regard to how often I read it, well, I guess pretty much every day actually, although to be precise, I hardly ever read it in its entirety, as it would be far too time-consuming, especially as I'm not that fast a reader, so I normally just flick through and read only the interesting-looking articles.
So finally, as to why I like this paper, well first of all, I would say it's really informative, and it helps me keep up-to-date with what's going on around me, otherwise I wouldn't have much of a clue, to be honest with you! And I guess another thing worth mentioning is that the newspaper is generally very well-written, because the articles, on the whole, are concise and not too wordy, unlike many other newspapers I've read in the past!
1. What public holidays do you have in your country?
We’ve got loads of them, for example, the one that’s just passed was the National Day holiday, and then we’ve got the Spring Festival of course - that’s probably the most important one - which is at the beginning of the year, sometime around, like, late January, beginning of February, that kind of time. And uh, what else do we have? Uh…oh yeah, the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and um… there are a few others as well but I can’t remember them all off-hand I’m afraid!
2. Do people in your country celebrate Christmas?
Um…it’s kind of hard to generalize, but I would say, to an extent, yeah. I mean, by and large, it’s the younger generation that tend to celebrate Christmas, but they don’t celebrate it in the way Westerners would. You know, in the West, people go to church, open presents, um…whereas over here, it’s kind of like, just, “l(fā)et’s get together for a party, go to KTV…” that sort of thing. So it is celebrated, but just in a slightly different way.At least that’s my understanding anyway!
3. Do you like public holidays?
Yeah I do. You know, it gives me the opportunity to be together with my family for a bit, take some time off, so yeah, I always tend to look forward to them.
4. Which public holidays do you like the most?
That’s a good question……. I guess I would have to say The Spring Festival, which I’m sure is most people’s favourite, the main reason being that it’s by far the most important festival in our culture. And so everything feels just a bit different during that time. You know, everyone seems happier, the streets are livelier, and it’s basically just like one long party which stretches on for a week or two. And, it’s also probably the only time of year you can eat and drink to your heart’s content without feeling guilty about it!
