Describe an interesting song you like.
You should say:
What it is
Which country the song comes from
What story the song tells
And explain why you think it is interesting.
I would like to describe a song called "Hey Jude", which was firstly sung by the English rock band the Beatles. Actually it's a song McCartney wrote to cheer up a 5-year old boy Julian, during his parents' divorce. The song was first released in August 1968 as the first single from one of the Beatles' records. The song reached the top of both British and American charts. Then, it became an uplifting ballad that's inspired the masses for decades.
I was also touched by the song the first time I heard it in my high school. I especially like the lyrics, which carry an encouraging message, like when he sings "make a sad song and make it better". It taught us to be positive and optimistic when things aren't going well. The lyrics and the tune always spark a bit of romance in my heart. I tended to listen to this song when I came across all kinds of frustration and failures in my life. It's really a wake-up call for me and could drag me out of tough situations. Nowadays, I can't help singing along with the song once it plays. It also had been covered by a series of singers worldwide. Interestingly, it was sung by 80,000 people in the stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games. The scene was spectacular, hard to describe in words!
1. Do you like to watch the sky?
喜歡看天空,喜歡什么時候看天空when I got nothing to do or have something stuck in my mind,在天空中你可以看到什么,crystal clear blue, clouds moving in an extremely subtle way, sometimes if I’m lucky, birds fly through in crowds 看天空時候你的感覺是怎樣的it’s the most peaceful moment then get wandering .
Example: Well, to be honest, I used to love looking up at the sky all the time. When I had my mind stuck in somewhere or simply got bored, I would go out to a roof or somewhere I can quietly enjoy the crystal clear blue sky, with the clouds moving subtlety, sometimes if I’m lucky, I can also see birds flying through in crowds. It was the most peaceful moment and perfect for wandering with the breezes. But now with the fog and haze, there’s no way I can do that again.
2.Do you prefer the sky during the day or at night?
難點是找出可以對比描述的方向,比如白天因為有太陽更加明亮而且溫暖so much brighter and warmer because of the sun,晚上有星星,更加靜謐tranquil。
Actually, I don’t have any particular preference over this since they both got unique features. In the daytime, it’s so much brighter and warmer because of the sun, so it is more comfortable to have the sunbath while watching the sky. But it is not as tranquil or fascinating as it is in the evening with all those shinning stars blinking towards me.
3.Have you learnt any courses about stars or planets?
I kind of have. I memorized a range of introductions in my geography class. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can recall any of those detailed information any more. But I do read or hear some news mainly about the where to get the best views of the "shooting stars" or things like this quite often. And almost every girl I know never stops gossiping about constellation, such as who is a typical Virgo or how can one get along well with a narcissistic Sagittarius. This is pretty much all I know about the stars. 4.Where is a good place to watch stars?
后續(xù)再描述具體的地方:比如the roof of the skyscrapers ,Closest place to the sky.
Well, I guess it depends greatly on where one live. I mean, for someone lives in the suburban district or country side, with less lights and average height of the house, positions for a better view may not matter that much. However, for one form urban areas, it would be excellent to stand on the roof of a skyscraper or get in a planetarium or museum where a telescope is set. Unfortunately, I have never tried this.
Describe an interesting magazine. You should say:
what magazine it is
what the magazine is about
how often you read it
and explain why you like to read it.
When it comes to this topic, I would like to talk about 開頭句be published 發(fā)表continuously 持續(xù)地不間斷地first issue 第一版edition 版本global circulation 全球發(fā)行量distinctive features 特點extensive大量的,廣闊的dramatic戲劇性的 夸張的never fail to do 做某事從未失敗catch one’s attention 吸引某人 endangered species, global warming and environmental issues瀕危物種,全球變暖,環(huán)境問題feel close to… When it comes to this topic, I would like to talk about a magazine named National Geographic, it has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888. This magazine is circulated worldwide in nearly 40 local-language editions and had a global circulation of 6.8 million per month.
This magazine contains articles about geography, history and world culture. There are two distinctive features about it, the first thing is its extensive use of dramatic photographs, when people open it, the colourful pictures of rivers, mountains and animals never fail to catch their attention. The secondly thing would be the topics it has, most of the articles are about important issues like endangered species, global warming and environmental issues, more and more people have known a lot about our planet and its’ main challenge through reading it. I read it not often, maybe about once a month, for the reason that I’m buried in my homework for the most of the time, also that I prefer to read it in English, and there are many words that I need to look up, so it takes me a long time to read it. I love reading it mainly because I love to feel close to nature, for someone like me who was born and raised in the city, I seldom have the chance to go to a forest or climb a mountain, so reading National Geographic is a good way for me to know more about about our beautiful mother planet.
Describe an unusual building you’ve visited
You should say:
where it is
what it is used for
what it looks like
and explain why you think it is unusual
Describe a modern building
Describe a historic building
TV tower
2.小蠻腰:slender waist
3.觀光:sightseeing
4.地點:venue
Here I would like to talk about the Canton Tower in Guangzhou, which is one of the local landmarks and famous for its unique design and architecture. I’ve been there for several times and I will recommend it to every visitor to this city.
The Canton Tower is actually an astronomical and sightseeing tower designed by Dutch architects, located on Haixinsha Island, which was originally the venue for the 2010 Asian Games. It made its name and be known of the whole Asia because of its unusual and special structure shown in the opening and closing ceremony of the Asian Games on TV. Locals give it a nickname as “the slender waist” because of its twisted structure. Its exterior form is generated by two ellipses, one at foundation level and the other one at top. These two ellipses are rotated relative to another, and the tightening caused by the rotation between the two ellipses forms a "waist"; so I think that’s the reason why it has such a vivid local name.
I’ve visited the interior of the tower, which is pretty amazing as well. Inside, it is subdivided into different zones with various functions, including TV and radio transmission facilities, you know, as it is supposed to be, and observatory decks for you to admire the view of the whole city, the revolving restaurant, which I heard is pretty classy but I failed to try last time, horizontal ferris wheel, recommended as the best venue for proposal in the city, exhibition spaces, shops, and 4D cinemas etc. So you can say, it is a multi-functional place for our local people. And the most important thing is, you could enjoy wonderful landscape there! Therefore, I really think this unusual architecture is a good way for you to hang out with friends and appreciate the great beauty of the city.
