Wang Ping: I'm looking for a little background about the English education system.

Jackson: I'm delighted to help. What can I tell you?

Wang Ping: I would like a general outline to begin with, if that's OK.

Jackson: Fine. Perhaps I'd better begin from the beginning.

Children start school at about the age of five. From five to eleven, they attend primary school. At eleven, they transfer to secondary school.

Wang Ping: I see. And how long do they stay there?

Jackson: Well, 16 is the soonest they are allowed to leave, but many choose to stay and continue until they are 18. A third option o for kids in this age range is to enroll in

technical college. These schools offer not only regular theory but also vocational and technical training.

Wang Ping: So they could train students in. say, bricklaying or car mechanics?

Jackson: Yes, that's the sort of thing.

Wang Ping: How many secondary school students go on to university?

Jackson: Still a minority. Less than twenty percent of eighteen-year-olds go to university.

Describe an important conversation that influenced youYou should say:

When this happened

Who you were talking with

What you talked about

and how this conversation Influenced you

時(shí)態(tài):

Tips:

Sample answer:I would like to share with you one important conversation that influenced me a lot. It was the conversation with my best friend Chole.Actually, it just happened like a couple of months ago. At that time, I was desperate to loose some weight as my boyfriend who worked in another city, would come to visit me. I really wanted to show my best to him so I searched the Internet and found a diet recipe, called "Apple recipe". It said that if you could try eating apples only at most everyday coupled with vinegar, you would lost like 5 kilos at most in a week.At first, things were not so hard it was just moderate feelings of hunger at the end of the day. However, when Chole and I went shopping together during the next day, she found that my complexion was not so good. She asked me what happened, and I just told her the truth. She said nothing but just convinced me to accompany her to the gym. During the lounge area at the gym, she handed me a bar of chocolate and said in an non-negotiable way "Eat this, and we will hit on the treadmill!" She seldom treated me so serious, so I had no choice but followed her, you know. After running for almost an hour, I was exhausted but also refreshed at the same time. When we both lay on the ground, she told me that she thought I was already pretty enough and I did not have to change anything. The so called apple diet recipe would do nothing but harm to my body. What's more, she believed that if I would like to change something, then it's better be for my own sake.

I guess I was convinced at that moment, as I had never thought about it before. The next day after we had the conversation, I resumed to my normal diet, and because of her, I am now into doing exercises, and I hit the gym regularly.

高分詞匯:be desperate to 渴望recipe 食譜complexion 臉色non-negotiable 不容商量的hit the gym 去健身房

1. When was the last time you did something in a hurry?

Um… when was it?...Let me have a think…I guess it was probably um… a few weeks ago, when I was on holiday, and I had booked a taxi to arrive at the place where I was staying, at about noon-ish, and I still had some clearing up to do, you know, I didn’t want to leave the place in a mess. So yeah, I was basically in a hurry tidying everything up and getting all my things packed before the taxi arrived.

2. Do you like to finish things quickly?

Yeah I do, cos I really don’t like things to hang over me, you know, it’s just not a nice feeling when you’ve got stuff to do hanging at the back of your mind. So I like to get stuff done as quickly as I can,but saying that, I still want to do it well of course! I mean, I’m not gonna do something haphazardly just to get it done quickly, I still wanna make sure I do it well!

3. What kinds of things do you never do in a hurry?

It’s an interesting question!... I’ve never really thought about that one! What kinds of things will I never do in a hurry?...um… I suppose things I would never do in a hurry would be important things, like coursework which counts towards my final grade, and what else?...I’m kind of hard pressed to think! Um… oh yeah, getting to the airport to catch a flight! You know, I’ll always give myself lots of time to get there, even if it means I arrive at the airport several hours in advance, cos it just gives me peace of mind. I mean, if you miss a flight, then your holiday’s probably gone down the drain, so it can be pretty disastrous!

4. Why do people make mistakes more easily when they are in a hurry?

Um… well thinking about it, I suppose it’s simply because when people are in a hurry, they’re not really thinking clearly. You know, their mind’s kind of um.. how can I put it… I guess you could say flustered, thinking about lots of things at the same time, and not really being focused. So in that state of mind, I think you’d agree it’s easy to overlook things, especially small details, which will likely lead to mistakes being made!

1. What's your favourite colour?

I'm not really all that sure actually, but I guess it's probably a toss up between green and blue. You know, I've always liked those two colours, and they were the ones that popped to mind when you asked me the question.

2. Are there any colours you dislike?

No I wouldn't say there are, cos I mean, obviously for some things, there are certain colours that I don't think would look so good, such as me driving a pink car around! But that doesn't mean I don't like pink, it just means I wouldn't choose it for certain things.

3. Are colours important to you?

Not really, no. I mean, I might take the colour into account when choosing something, like a shirt or pair of trousers, but you know, in the grand scheme of things, they're really not that important at all, especially compared with things like friends and family.

4. Is colour very important to you when you're buying clothes?

Yeah, I suppose it kind of is, because certain colours tend to look better on me than others. For example, a lot of my friends have told me I look quite good in a white shirt, so I tend to favour that colour when I'm choosing a new shirt. And as well as this, I'll also consider the colours of the clothes I've already got, and maybe choose a colour which I don't already have.

5. Do you prefer light or dark coloured clothes?

I honestly don't have a preference, because I mean, I actually like to wear a combination of both. So just to give you an example, I often wear light trousers together with a dark shirt, or vice versa, because the light and dark colours kind of compliment each other, if you know what I mean!
