1. How often do you hang out with friends?

I guess probably something like once or twice a week. Mainly on weekends, simply because that’s when I have the most time. I would like to hang out with them more, but I’m just too busy during weekdays with my study and stuff. So yeah, by and large, I only get to do stuff with my friends on weekends.

2. Who do you usually like to hang out with?

Um… I’d say it’s mainly my classmates, cos I get on with them really well, at least most of them anyway! And that’s probably due to the fact that we’ve got a lot in common, like studying the same subject, and having the same interests. And um, yeah, we’re quite a close-knit group, so I always tend to have a good time when I’m out with them.

3. Where do you like to go when you hang out with your friends?

Um.. all sorts of places really, nowhere in particular. I mean, we kind of just go where our mood takes us. So for example, if we wanna just go somewhere to relax, then one place we like going to is Starbucks, because it’s just a very chilled-out place and we all like our coffee! And as well as that, other places we like to hang out at are shopping malls, cos there’s quite a lot to do there, and also KTV, because we always have a lot of fun whenever we go. So yeah, these would be the main places.

2.Do you do any kind of sports during weekends?

Yes, sure! I have a lot of spare time during weekends and I do javelin on Saturdays… In summertime I also go cycling with my friends... Generally, I don’t like staying at home all day... I prefer active rest…

3.Tell me about your hobbies. Is there anything you like to do in your leisure time?

I used to play tennis as a hobby… But a few months ago my family moved to a new place, and there were no tennis courtsnearby... That's why I took up wrestling... But I still play tennis every once in a while.

雅思口語(yǔ)當(dāng)?shù)氐淖兓掝}

Describe a change that will improve your local area.

You should say:

what the change is

why the change is needed

whether there will be any problems associated with change

and explain how it will improve your local area.

Just one look out of my window will tell you that my local area is crying out for more car parking spaces. Anyone with half a brain can see that the current situation is untenable in the long run.

As it stands, people are left with no choice but to park in the street, regardless of whether there are yellow lines or signs prohibiting it. I’ve even seen cars parked on the pavement or parked sideways to fit into very small spaces on the side of the road. In some instances cars are double parked, meaning that the person inside is blocked in and prevented from leaving!

I realize the change won’t come easily. As much as I would like to see it happen, there is no space to put a new car park in the area. You can’t just go knocking down buildings willy-nilly and at any rate the local authorities take an age to make any decisions or changes. Any new parking area would have to be located a few blocks away and this would cause uproar with drivers who are too lazy to walk an extra 5 or 10 minutes.

If they can ever get their act together and come up with a plan, I think it would be of huge benefit to the local area. The streets would not be cluttered up with vehicles, it would reduce congestion and people would be able to use the pavements again, rather than walking on the roads and being in danger of getting run over.

Describe a piece of good news you heard from TV or the Internet.

You should say:

what the news was about

when you got this news

where you got this news from

and explain why you think it was a good piece of news.

I once read a piece of good news on the website of the New York Times. It was two years ago, I was still a journalism student and one of my tutors assigned me to do a presentation for my news-gathering course. The time limit was five minutes and it was supposed to be a critique, i.e., stating clearly what was good and bad about the story.

So I started preparing for my assignment. I was skimming through pages and clicking around when this article caught my eye. Basically, it was about a high school student who got bullied because he stuttered. The news story was a good one because it wasn’t what I expected it to be — a one-sided story that went on about the poor boy.

This piece was actually rather fair and balanced. It tried to show the readers what had happened to the stutterer and they gave the alleged bullies a chance to give their side of the story. From the journalistic perspective, it was a neat one.
