Describe a piece of equipment in your home

You should say:

what it is;

how often you use it;

who you usually use it with;

and explain why this item is important to you.

sample answer

Well, I’m going to talk about something you may well be familiar with – a laptop computer. I use mine mostly for e-mails but also for word processing, especially when I’m writing reports or something for work. I find I can organise my ideas more clearly than with the traditional pen and paper. Although I do take it with me most days, I don’t actually use it for very long at a time because the power doesn’t last for more than a few hours if it’s not plugged in. Like most people, I use my phone for most smaller tasks so although I have my laptop, it’s not always on.

Now, the first step in using a laptop is quite obvious – you have to turn it on. This can take quite a while depending on the model. What you do next depends on your particular reason for using it, but I’m going to talk about connecting to the Internet. After making sure that the laptop is on, you need to click the wifi signal icon to connect to a wireless network. Of course, you don’t need to do this if you have already connected to that network before as your computer will remember and automatically connect you. If it’s your first time connecting, most places will then ask for a password. Once you’ve entered that, it can take up to a minute to connect, but then you should see a small notice on the screen telling you that you are now online – you know, connected to the Internet. Finally, simply type in the website address you want, or if you are just surfing then type the word or words in the search bar.

It’s not at all difficult to use, but some people still have difficulty.

1. Why do so many people like going to places with water such as lakes, rivers or the ocean?

It is much cooler for most people if they go to places with water especially in the hot summer. It is of great fun to swim in the water or to boat on the lack. The water can absorb most of the heat wave, so people can feel much better near the water.

平靜

Generally, I think water, especially the ocean can make us feel clam, because the sea is so huge and wide that we can hardly see the end of it. So we will be shocked and amazed by how magnificent the nature mother can be and come to know that how insignificant our human beings are. So we can clear our mind and forget all the disappointed and unhappy moments in life and become more tolerate and open-minded in the future.

Take part in various kinds of water sports/ simply play with water

We can explore the ocean and see many interesting and creative ocean creatures through snorkelling or diving.

Compared with many other types of activities, such as climbing a mountain or visiting a museum, going to places like a lake or a river is much more relaxing. The only things that people need to do are to take a good seat facing the water and breathe in the fresh wind coming from away.

2. What kinds of leisure activities do people like to do in places such as on the ocean, at a beach, at a river, at a lake etc.?

踏浪 splash on the water

沖浪 surfing

玩沙子 playing with the sand to build creative constructs

看日出日落 enjoy the sunrise and sunset

吃東西 barbecue on the beach

Beach Volleyball

拍照 taking pictures, especially romantic wedding style photos

What’s your favorite vegetable or fruit?

How often do you eat vegetables?

Do you think people should eat more fruit and vegetables?

Is it convenient to buy fruit and vegetables where you live?

What’s your favorite vegetable or fruit?

I enjoy eating all kinds of fruit like plain fruit, tropical fruit or berries. But if you ask me, I think apples should be on the top of my list. I’ve been eating them since I was little because my mom always says that one apple a day can keep the doctor away and it’s essential for a teenager to keep a balanced healthy diet. I don’t know but it’s quite juicy and I enjoy the flavor especially when they are sweet.

spicy or hot辣的

How often do you eat vegetables?

I do have them on a daily basis because I suppose it’s quite a healthy habit and I can benefit a lot form them like necessary vitamins and keeping me energetic. I also have a sweet tooth so tomatoes with sugar is absolutely my cup of tea. I eat them almost every day in summer.

1. What forms of visual art are popular in your country?

The visual arts: ceramics 陶藝, drawing 素描, painting, sculpture 雕塑, printmaking 版畫, design, crafts 手工, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture.

I think the most popular form of visual art is painting.

梢詽M足不同人對藝術(shù)的追求:there are a variety of different forms and themes of painting, so painting can satisfy the artistic pursuit/ taste of different people.

With the economy development and the increase in people’s living standard, art industry has been developed greatly. Art galleries can be seen everywhere, and the most of the works are paintings.

Unlike many other forms of art, such as sculptures, which are sometimes too big to fit into a small room, painting can be easily used to decorate a room. No matter whether they can appreciate art of not, most people would like to buy some paintings to make their room more beautiful.

2. Are there any difference between the art in your country and the art in Western countries?

In traditional Chinese painting, painter will use some simple sketches to depict beautiful and artistic c atmosphere.

Another significant form of art is calligraphy. Compared with western countries, where the letters are rather restricted, each Chinese character has its special spelling and strokes. So in my view, its more beautiful when you write a Chinese word than a English word.

For western nations, especially those European countries, art is regarded as almost an attitude toward life, penetrating into every aspect of their life. However, in china, the average living standard is still low, most residents have not accessed to art.

3. Are there many art exhibitions in your country?

你可以說有, well, yes, I think so.

[1] 經(jīng)濟的發(fā)展 the rapid growth of Chinese economy

[2] 對于藝術(shù)的關(guān)注度越來越高 more attention has been paid to the art-related fields, because people have more disposable income, so they shift their focus from physical need to artistic pursuit

The number of people who can appreciate art and create art work is increasing.

The cost of hosting an exhibition is too high, if it is not intended to sell the works, it cannot make its ends meet, because even if they charge for entrance, people may not pay a lot of money just to see these works.

The whole atmosphere for ordinary people to participate in any activity relating art is still not strong. Most residents still concern more about the pursuit of material comforts instead of spiritual needs.

4. Do you think people should be able to see these exhibitions for free?

By making these exhibitions free can attract more people’s attention on art projects. Sometimes, people are willing to go to these places, but they are only reluctant to go because of the high admission fee.

[2] 普及藝術(shù)知識: spread the basic knowledge of art and provide people with a visual and direct chance to appreciate these works closely, instead of reading them on the book.

[1] 入不敷出if the exhibitions are free, the host cannot make its end meet. It seems to be the only way that they can make some money to cover the expense of the show.

[2] 沒又收入來源,特別是古代的 in some modern art shows, the works can be sold to sponsor the expenditure of the exhibition. But if the theme of the show is about the ancient art, most of the works belongs to the nation, so they cannot be sold. In this case, certain fee should be charged.

[3] 即使免費也不會吸引很多人,不如通過收費,提高展覽的水平: the truth is that even if the show is free, it can hardly attract many visitors. So in order to make the show better, in terms of the quality of the works and the display of the show, admission tickets are needed.
