雅思大作文經(jīng)濟類范文篇一:支持全民教育的稅收
Families who do not send their children to government-financed school should not be required to pay taxes that support universal education.
When families send their children to non-public (that is, parochial and private) schools, they must pay tuition and other school expenses. Spending additional money to pay taxes creates an even greater financial hardship for these families. They must make sacrifices, trying to have enough money to pay for school in addition to other bills. For example, my friend Amalia is a single mother with an eight-year-old son, Andrew. Because they survive solely on her income, money is tight. Amalia works at least 10 hours of overtime each week to cover Andrew's school expenses. This gives Amalia and Andrew less time to spend together, and she is always so tired that she is impatient with him when they do have family time. Clearly, this extra expense is an unfair burden for hard-working parents like Amalia.
While some people may consider parochial or private school to be a luxury, for many families it is essential because their community's public schools fail to meet their children's needs. Unfortunately, due to shrinking budgets, many schools lack well-qualified, experienced educators. Children may be taught by someone who is not a certified teacher or who knows little about the subject matter. Some problems are even more serious. For example, the public high school in my old neighborhood/neighbourhood had serious safety problems, due to students bringing guns, drugs, and alcohol to school. After a gang-related shooting occurred at the high school, my parents felt that they had no choice but to enroll me in a parochial school that was known for being very safe.
Unfortunately, even when families prefer public schools, sometimes they can't send their children to one. These families are burdened not only for paying expenses at another school, but also by being forced to pay taxes to support a public school that they do not use.
雅思大作文經(jīng)濟類范文篇二:奢侈品受追捧
Task:More and more people want to famous brand clothes, cars and items. What are the reasons? Is this trend positive or negative?
Nowadays, the thriving consumption of the public on luxurious goods with famous brands has been a heated social issue in debate. In this essay, I will explore possible reasons and analyze whether this trend is positive or negative.
There are two main reasons that explain why people have more desires to purchase these items. Firstly, advanced industry driven by new technologies like automatic manufacturing, intelligent robots and computers has made low-cost production possible, which means famous-brand commodities are becoming cheaper and affordable to the public. As a result, people think spending on these expensive items at a lower price is a cost-efficient investment that helps them to pursue a decent and graceful life. Secondly, advertising is another drive for this phenomenon. Intensive advertisement campaigns of name brands on mass media are a strong brainwashing process, by long-term exposure to which, the audience begin to admire these expensive fashions, make-ups and trendy decorations that are claimed to be valuable in enhancing the user’s image and charm. This commercial publicity, to a large extent, stimulates viewers to go into an addiction of collecting luxurious goods.
However, demerits of this trend should never be ignored, and the main one is that a strong desire of owning costly goods stimulates the overconsumption of people. Generally speaking, prices of fashions clothes, race cars and bags of Gucci are incredibly high. In too many cases, people obsessed with fashion cut off the basic budget of daily life, or max out credit cards, for the purpose of purchasing a single expensive luxurious dress, which, eventually, causes the finance out of balance.
The most worrying aspect is that this trend is a crass materialism that causes people to forget spiritual values. The pursuit of famous brands misleads people to lay too much emphasis on the sense of possessing, rather than giving, thus gradually losing sympathy and charitable heart. For example, sadly, the wealthy might prefer to have a decadent expenditure on extravagant and unnecessary things, rather than donate money on worthwhile social projects like children education, caring old groups or saving the environment.
雅思大作文經(jīng)濟類范文篇三:運動員收入高合理嗎
Write about the following topic:
Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Model Answer:
As a result of constant media attention, sports professionals in my country have become stars and celebrities, and those at the top are paid huge salaries. Just like movie stars, they live extravagant lifestyles with huge houses and cars.
Many people find their rewards unfair, especially when comparing these super salaries with those of top surgeons or research scientists, or even leading politicians who have the responsibility of governing the country. However, sports salaries are not determined by considering the contribution to society a person makes, or the level of responsibility he or she holds. Instead, they reflect the public popularity of sport in general and the level of public support that successful stars can generate. So the notion of ‘fairness’ is not the issue.
Those who feel that sports stars’ salaries are justified might argue that the number of professionals with real talent are very few, and the money is a recognition of the skills and dedication a person needs to be successful. Competition is constant and a player is tested every time they perform in their relatively short career. The pressure from the media is intense and there is little privacy out of the spotlight. So all of these factors may justify the huge earnings.
Personally, I think that the amount of money such sports stars make is more justified than the huge earnings of movie stars, but at the same time, it indicates that our society places more value on sport than on more essential professions and achievements.
