1. Do you know how to cook?

My mom does the cooking at home. I never had an interest in learning, and she never pushed me to. However, my brother is a great cook. He learned just by observing and practicing, because he’s keen on cooking cuisines.

2. Have you thought about learning how to cook?

NO, NO. I don’t think I have the talent for this. Also, I am still not the one for elaborate sit down dinners. Just a quick meal in front of the TV works for me. So fast food has always been my favourite.

3. What do you like to cook?

Anything and everything. Usually the more time consuming, chopping and dicing, and messed up my kitchen is, the happier I am. I also like to bake: from cookies, cup cakes, to lasagna and meat loaf.

4. Do you think everyone should learn how to cook?

Sure, everyone should cook because everyone eats, it is a life skill. Eating food that you cooked yourself is healthier than eating processed food. You don't have to cook to top chef level but cooking is a good way to relax and have fun with your family.

I would like to talk about one of my best friends’ birthday party last year, which was an unforgettable occasion to me because of a really special cake.

While I do not have a sweet tooth, most of my friends are big fans of confections. I guess some of them can even be called ‘sweet addicts’. Anyway, that’s why they decided to make a red velvet cake as a birthday gift for Kelly, one of my best friends in high school. Since it was for Kelly, I rolled up my sleeves and gave them a hand despite my limited baking skills.

It took us three days to complete the baking, and the moment Kelly saw the nicely baked cake decorated with flowers, she was totally in awe, since none of us ‘bakers’ was actually a decent cook. The truth is, it was not easy for a group of green hands to get together and try making this work. We first had a big fight over whether we should make Kelly a Choco Lave cake or a red velvet cake. The fight has been on for a whole day and we finally decided to make her the latter because she once said that red velvet cake looked cute. I can’t remember how many times there were when someone accidentally messed up with the eggs, or forgot to take the cake out of the oven. After times of failing, we finally managed to have baked a lovely red velvet cake that smells really nice. The cream was rich and the color was just about right. To be honest, it somehow reminded me of a rose in spring. Well, I guess I was just being too happy about what we had achieved.

On Kelly’s birthday party, we shared the cake with a whole bunch of other guests, and everyone there agreed it was delicious. A bit oversweet though, probably because some of us had put too much sugar in it. In spite of this, Kelly said she loved it as much as she loved us, and the cake was the best birthday gift she ever received. Well, I have to admit that, her words had made it all worthwhile and special.

Describe a toy that you received when you were a child

You should say:

What the toy was.

Who gave it to you

How you used this.

And explain how you felt when you got this toy

When I was a child, I received a Barbie doll as a gift from my father's friend. He bought the toy from the States.

I played with this Barbie doll almost every day. I begged my grandma to make clothes for her and dressed her like a princess or a super star. She was my favorite toy for a long time. I always put her besides my pillow.

I felt super happy when I received this Barbie doll. The doll had long hair, big eyes, and beautiful skirt. When I was a child, Barbie doll was very expensive and my parents couldn't afford to buy it, so Barbie doll had been a dream gift for me. To some extent, receiving the doll was a dream coming true. I saw it as a valuable gift and tried to keep it in a good shape. I also felt thankful for my father's friend who brought this happiness to me.

Describe A piece of advice you’ve received.

You should say:

what it is

who gave it to you

why you took the advice

and explain what the result was.

I can remember a time when I sought advice from a wide range of different people. It was a couple of years ago, at a previous job, when I fell for a colleague. From my perspective it was love at first sight, but I was unsure whether the feeling was mutual and I didn’t know my company’s stance on office romances.

I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to listen to just one person, so, as I said, I asked a few of my friends to get a broad set of opinions and points of view. A couple of people had reservations and advised caution, they recommended that I should take things slow, after all, “good things come to those that wait”. However, the general feeling was that I should go for it and ask her out. They said I had nothing to lose and I should strike while the iron’s hot. I had butterflies in my stomach, but despite being a nervous wreck, I eventually plucked up the courage to ask her out.

As it happens, I shouldn’t have listened to them. She turned me down in front of all my co-workers and I had to walk back to my desk with my tail between my legs. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life and I’ll definitely think twice before putting my heart on the line again. As they say, “once bitten, twice shy.
