1. 概括地觀察Survey
首先略讀每章或每頁的大概內容,例如:可從書本的序言和目錄開始,通常作者會在序言中交代敘述的重點及動機,而目錄則可幫助你了解課本的組織架構及章節(jié)層次;閱讀課文的名稱title,主題 main headings 及副題sub-headings;
注意每一主題的頭一句,導言 introduction 和本章提要summary(如果有的話),圖片說明 captions to all graphics 等,這樣,你不用十五分鐘便對內容有概略的了解。
2. 提出一個全面的問題Write a general question
觀察課文內容后,提出一個包含所有閱讀資料的問題,把問題寫在每章節(jié)的開首,令自己可以看到此問題時,便憶起全部內容。
3. 提出各別問題來引導閱讀Write questions to guide your reading
當你看到主題、副題、圖片及首句時,由此而提出有關問題,寫在題目或圖片旁邊,幫助你閱讀文章內容。
4.尋求問題的答案Read to answer the questions
閱讀章節(jié)時,盡量跟隨你的問題來找答案,把握課文重點。
5.在答案下劃線Underline words that answer the question
在了解一段內容后,找出解答問題的重要字key words及短語phrases,并劃記下來。在劃記時可選用其他顏色的筆,既方便又快捷。
6. 修正問題Revise the questions
如果在閱讀時,發(fā)現問題并未得到解答或不明確,可重新寫下問題,并將有關答案的字詞劃記。再重讀文章,遇到不明白的地方,再請教導師或同學。

例 1.
Scientists felt that they could get an idea of how long the extinctionstook by determining how long it took to deposit this one centimeter of clay and they thought they could determine the time it took to deposit the clay by determining the amount of the element iridium (Ir) it contained.
【解析】
在 they thought ( that ) they could determine the time 的賓語從句中,連接詞 that 被省略掉了,在 they could determine the time ( that ) it took to deposit the clay 和 it took to deposit the clay by determining the amount of the element iridium (Ir) ( that ) it contained 中,因為 that作定語從句的賓語,故這兩個 that 也可以省略掉。
【處理】
Scientists felt that they could get an idea of how long the extinctions took by determining how long it took to deposit this one centimeter of clay and they thought ( that ) they could determine the time ( that ) it took to deposit the clay by determining the amount of the element iridium (Ir)( that ) it contained.
例 2.
Seldom is the weather more dramatic than when thunderstorms strike.
【解析】
than 相當于是一個準關系代詞,它后面省略了主系表 the weather was dramatic而只計劃留了狀語從句 when thunderstorms strike。
【處理】
Seldom is the weather more dramatic than ( the weather was dramatic ) whenthunderstorms strike.
雅思閱讀之強調句的表達方式
(1)“it”引導的強調句
1)It + is/was + 被強調部分 + that/which/who/whom/whose + 句子的其他成分:
在這一結構中,如果被強調部分是人,用"that",“who”,“whom”;如果被強調部分是物,用"that"或“which";強調狀語時,只能用"that",不能用"when",“where” 和"why";強調的主語是復數,主句的謂語動詞也得用單數。
It was uncle Bill、whose telephone number I lost.
It was we that/who arrived there first.
It was because it rained heavily that they didn’t go outing.
[注]①強調的成分通常為主語、賓語、賓補、狀語以及由名詞短語表示的主語補足語等。
It is Alice that/who looks pretty.(強調主語)
It was the wall that they painted white yesterday.(強調賓語)
It was yesterday that he put the wall white.(強調狀語)
It Was the chairman of the Trade Union that we elected.(強調賓補)
②強調句中"who"或"that"后的謂語動詞,應與前面被強調的名詞或代詞在人稱、時態(tài)和數上計劃持一致。
It is I who have responsible for the organization.
It was he that/who painted the wall white yesterday.
③作表語的形容詞不能用于強調句式。
誤:It is beautiful that Helen is.
He is taller by far than any other student in his class.
He is by far the taller of the two.
④“No matter”+“關系代詞/關系副詞”加強語氣:
No matter what you may say,1 won’t believe you.
No matter when our motherland needs us.we’ll respond to her call.
No matter how busy the president is,he often takes time off to give talks to the students.
⑤其他形容詞、副詞或詞組用于加強語氣:
Put it right in the middle.
Tom is absolutely right in doing this job.
This is just the word the author uses in his article.
I am anything but a kill-joy(掃興的人).(=I am not a kill-joy at all.)
He is nothing but a worker.(=He is only a worker.)
He is nothing if not careful.(=He is very careful.)
