1.What activities would you do if you we re spending some leisure time at a beach or near the ocean?

2.Why do some people like water sports?

3.Do you think the government should invest money in developing facilities for water sports?

4.Do you think that human activity is posing a threat to the oceans of the world?

5.What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of travelling on the icean?

Sample answers:

1.I would promenade along the coast, write some words or draw some pictures on the sand, and,of course, take photos of the spectacular view !

2.Because water sports,(such as surfing, kite surfing, wake boarding, scuba diving, sailingand paddling, are usually funny, exciting, challenging. With water being 800 times denser than air and the fact there is little impact on the body when moving in water, the joints will tend to last a lot longer than sports such as running. Most importantly, some individuals love being in nature.

3.Sure. The government is obliged to care for the physical and mental health of its citizens. Many governments have already invested enormous amount of money in developing public infrastructure, including water sports, which are an important component in people's life. If,however , the government's budget is limited , it's a horse of another/a different color.

4.Definitely! Fishing has led many marine species to extinction, decreasing the diversity of creatures. The waste and sewage have gravely polluted seawater, resulting in Eutrophication (富營養(yǎng)化、海藻污染).Also, greenhouse gas emission, which can be absorbed by the ocean, has engendered aggravating ocean acidification(海水酸化越來越嚴重).

5.Advantages :Travelling on the ocean is a good way to get rid of the hustle and bustle of a metropolis;besides,it's a blessing for those who love the azure sky and the seemingly boundless ocean.

1. Are there any special customs about wedding in your region?

這個問題最好用舉例子的方式拓展問題,可以用for example, for instance, a typical example is that…

Sample Answer:Weddings in my hometown have many special customs and traditions. One thing I want to share with you is that on the wedding day, the bride's family may act trying to prevent the bride meeting the groom, while the groom's family tries to get the bride into the groom's family home. I think it is the most interesting part of the ceremony. 2. How have weddings changed in recent years?

在談到以前的時候可以用 in the past; traditionally, historically; in the last xx years/ decades; 在談到現(xiàn)在的時候可以用nowadays; at present; in recent years; now; these days… Sample Answer:I think weddings in China have changed a lot in recent years. In the past, wedding ceremonies were often conducted in traditional ways. However, nowadays, western weddings have gained much popularity. In addition, wedding expenses tend to increase quite a lot. In the present days, some weddings are really extravagant and the wedding bill could go up to 10 million RMB. It is unbelievable for me! 3. Where do couples in your country usually go for their honeymoons?

加分詞匯:on a tight budget:預算緊張honeymoon destination:蜜月目的地lovebird:相愛的人fairy-tale theme park:童話世界般的主題公園

Sample Answer:I suppose it depends on their budget. People with different financial backgrounds may choose different honeymoon destinations. In my opinion, a beach holiday is always the most popular choice since it can bring them romance as well as relaxation. 4. Where do you think a newly-wed couple should live, living with their parents or on their own?

I hold the opinion that…, I believe…,I suppose…, from my perspectivefrom my point of view

Sample Answer:Personally, I believe a newly-wed couple should live on their own. I hold this opinion for two reasons. First of all, newly-wed couples need some private space to enjoy the company of each other. Most importantly, living on their own can help them adapt to their marriage life soon. It can be helpful for the stability of their marriage.

1.What do you think motivates people who seek fame?

In some ways I think there are two types of motivation, or two pathways, if you like, to fame. There are those who deliberately set out to become famous and that is their goal from the beginning. It doesn’t really matter if they have talent or anything, they just crave fame and I think they are motivated by wanting lots of people to like them, and the attention and perhaps the money also, but I don’t think that is the main motivation. Then there are people who simply do what they love and become famous doing it. They are motivated by their talent, I believe.

2.Some people argue that celebrities and famous people have no right to expect privacy because they are in the public eye. What’s your opinion?

I don’t think this is a valid argument at all. Famous people do not become public property simply because they are famous and I certainly believe they are entitled to as much privacy as the rest of us. Take Princess Diana as an example—she was hounded by the media and paparazzi to the extent that it killed her in the end. They are human beings and have the basic right to privacy like the rest of us. The only exception to this would be related to politicians and information which the public needs to be aware of in order to keep them honest!

3.Many celebrities have begun using their fame to raise awareness of social issues. Do you think this is a good trend or a bad trend?

I think this is a positive trend, but I also think celebrities have to be informed and knowledgeable about the issues they claim to believe in rather than just lending their names to causes they know nothing about in order to promote their own profile. They can’t just use it for their own gain, they have to be genuinely concerned. When it’s done well, there’s a real benefit in having celebrity power in raising awareness and money for important issues, such as the benefit concert for the earthquake in Wenchuan for instance.

4.Why do some companies advertise products by using famous people?

Some companies use famous people to advertise their products, because many people aspire to be famous or at least respect famous people’s opinions. It is also a well-known fact that most famous people are very wealthy. So, if people see that someone famous is using a certain product, they get the impression that it is a quality product. Another reason is that famous people are usually attractive. Having an attractive person in you advertisement draws in people’s attention, and will keep people’s attention longer than unattractive person.

what the advice was

The most important advice I received in my life was: "Know yourself". Quite a simple one but, it means much more to me than it sounds.

During a certain period in my early 20's, I was extremely arrogant. Every time I assumed I would be successful, I would get whatever I wanted. I didn't respect people around me, and even my arrogance came out in every speech I made.

Mom thought I was full of myself, irritating. She once told me to "know yourself"! Mom said it's inscribed on the front of the temple of Apollo. And entire quote is "know thyself, and you shall know all the mysteries of the gods and of the universe." That's quite a mouthful. Her version is this. "Know yourself because what else is there to know?

As a child, we don't always realize that parents tell us what to do out of love. I discovered that she was right after awhile. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be a sober realist -- aware of both one's strength and shortage. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much. I think feeling small is the first step to knowing yourself. Being silent is the second. I think we are afraid of silence because we don't want to be small. If we are too silent, we might slow down enough to recognize that something much deeper, much larger, and much more ancient than us is slowly trying to tell us something. And that's scary. But I think it's worth a try. Maybe it will tell us who we are. That's to way so long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself there won't be difficulties you can't overcome, nor obstacles you can't surmount.
