Some people think that children should learn to compete, but others think that children should be taught to cooperate. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

However protective children’s parents can be, they will one day have to face the society by themselves.

The society currently is undeniably competitive. In order to be able to stand on their own feet, children should be equipped with sufficient competence, such as knowledge, skills, and above all, a strong sense of competition.

The power of unity comes greater than the power of individuals. Take football match as an example: each Brazilian player is talented, however it is not unusual that they are defeated by those who are merely ordinary players but definitely know how to play as a team.

Think about how to present oneself when writing a CV, ‘be willing to cooperate’ appears to be a must.

The sense of competition and that of cooperation are equally appreciable. Yet, we should not ignore the fact that modern projects are often so complicated and challenging that they need both individual talents and excellent teamwork to be completed.

There is no doubt that international cooperation, from private enterprisesto governments, has become increasingly prevalent (= more popular these years). It is on account of growingly global economy, and it is beneficial for almost every country in the world.

近年來(lái),私企和政府間的國(guó)際化合作變得廣泛而流行。這是由于經(jīng)濟(jì)全球化的趨勢(shì)和世界各國(guó)的利益共同導(dǎo)致的。

People firmly believe that the international cooperation is good for environment protection. It is well awarethat every country has its unique way to protect environment. For example, the Dutch do well in disposing of wastes. They point out that if their advanced technology can be introduced into the developing countries that are hardly to invent such good technology, not only some countries or groups but also all of the people living on the earth will benefit a lot. Of course, the countries that have invented these technologies will have to suffer from the damage in economy more or less.

On the other hand, the view taken by other people is that the main advantage of internationalcooperation is in terms of business. It is true that the imports have been sold everywhere in my country. To illustrate, a modern car often consistsof different components from various countries. In the meanwhile, some necessary goods are always imported from other countries. However, the competition between local businesses and exoticones is going more intense.

In my opinion, the meritsof international cooperation are in both environment and the business. Also, people ought to make the best use of international cooperation to solvethe serious worldwide problems such as global warming.

Sample answer:

Cooperation has strongly been advocated by many schools, possibly because good teamwork spirit is regarded as shared trait among successful groups. It is believed that organizing children to do team sports is the best way to teach cooperation. My view is that team sports are of great significance to the cultivation of teamwork spirit, despite the fact that children can learn to cooperate through many other methods.

Team sports are known for the ability that it can improve children’s teamwork spirit. In the team environment, members need to know how to communicate with each other and discuss strategies to beat rivals, which can prepare students for both academic performance and career development. If there are no team activities provided for children, they may feel lonely and isolated from the outside world. Undoubtedly, introducing more team sports to children contributes to cultivating their cooperation spirit.

Another advantage of team sports is that it can encourage children to obey team rules. When they are playing together, they have to follow some certain instructions; otherwise activities or games may not be gone smoothly. In addition, children are more likely to help each other and realize the merits of others id they are occupied with team sports.

Meanwhile, it should be admitted that team sports are not the only way to cooperation. If the team fails, children may blame their teammate, which is harmful to both teamwork spirit and their friendship. Clearly, there are many other social activities that can improve children’s cooperation, including singing in a chorus and participating in unpaid community service.

To sum up, team sports provide a good environment for children to cooperate and encourage them to follow instructions, although we have to acknowledge that some other activities are also the methods leading to teamwork spirit.

1. Why do you think some school teachers use competitions as class activities?

I think teachers use competitions to motivate the children in their classes. I'm sure that teachers try all kinds of activities to engage their pupils, and competitions might be one of the best ways to keep children interested or get them excited. Children love winning things.

I don't like the idea of children thinking that they will only work hard if there is a prize.

I'd say that they have become more competitive since I was young. Children now have to take exams from a much younger age, so I think there is more of a focus on doing well in tests. Parents also seem to be getting more competitive; I think that many parents push their children to do extra homework rather than letting them play with friends.
