人物題要分類討論
我們首先給人物題分分類。
主要分為兩種:普通人(ordinary people)和名人(celebraties)。
今天,先詳細講講第一種——普通人。
普通人里面,ETS主要考察五種人,我們直接看一下往年的真題:
1 What characteristics do you think a good neighbor should have?(鄰居)
2 What do you think makes someone a good parent?(家人)
3 Describe a special friend in your childhood.(朋友)
4 Talk about your favorite teacher.(老師)
5 What qualities do you think a good leader should have?(領(lǐng)導)
答題時只需圍繞
一個品質(zhì)展開
對于一個普通人來說,我們在進行回答的時候只需要圍繞一個品質(zhì)展開討論,就可以套用到任何普通人的題目中去。
也就是說,準備段子時,普通人的準備原則就是2個形容詞2個例子。
這些品質(zhì)可以有:hard-working, intelligent, a sense of humor, brave, helpful, a sense of responsibility, knowledgeable等等。
比如,我們選取樂于助人(helpful)這個品質(zhì),那么老師、家長、上司、朋友、鄰居這五類人都可以使用;
例子也可以通用,比如出差的時候照看孩子或者寵物這個例子就可以用于這五類人。
我們下面以剛剛提到的第四題作為例題來分析一下。
Talk about your favorite teacher. Using specific details and examples to explain why you like her.
?首先第一步,我們需要決定我們的描述對象。
這里我們選擇英語老師-I really like my English teacher in my high school.
?第二步,我們需要簡單的對這個人進行一下描述。
上面提到的描述的切入點很多,注意只要不跟我們的理由點重合便可。
比如,她教英語已經(jīng)10年了-she's been teaching English in our high school for ten years.
* 小tip:我們對描述對象進行描述的時候,建議使用定語從句,用一個who來引出描述切入點。上面的描述就變成了:I really like my English teacher in my high school who has been teaching English for more than ten years.這樣的回答比你單句的回答要“高大上”很多,能讓考官看到你的英語水平。*
?第三步,我們想一個理由點。
比如我們選擇creativity.這個老師的課很有趣,她比較創(chuàng)新。
于是我們的分論點就變成:
I like her mainly because she's really creative and her class is really interesting.
?第四步,我們開始舉例子或者作比較。
可以講一次有趣的上課經(jīng)歷,比如老師上課讓我們分組做游戲,贏了的小組可以贏得獎品;
也可以列舉一下這個老師的上課風格,然后提出另一個老師的上課跟他作對比。
這樣,一個結(jié)構(gòu)完整的回答就準備好了:
Well, personally speaking, I really like my math teacher Linda, mainly because her class is interesting and I could really learn a lot. She divided us into several groups and gave up a lot of time of discuss one specific topic which is cool. And we could do some game in the class like spelling bee and stuff. Most importantly, she assigned us presentation tasks rather than the rigid written assignments which are boring. As a result we can only be in learning math but also practice the communication skill. So she is my favorite teacher.
注:斜體部分是要留意的地方,回答的時候加進去這些內(nèi)容(情感態(tài)度詞、詳細的列舉、邏輯連詞等),能讓文章聽起來更自然、更有說服力,考官聽了也不會覺得很單薄。
但是!
這樣的回答,如果發(fā)音不錯也只能拿到3分(fair);如果發(fā)音差一點那就只2分(limited)左右了。
為什么?
問題就出在了我一直跟大家強調(diào)的ETS口語評分標準之一語言使用(language use)上面。
單詞的選擇沒有問題,沒有使用寫作詞匯,很自然。
但是,語法問題就比較多了。
首先,時態(tài)問題。整個文章的展開都是一般說明,不存在過去時態(tài),所以劃線部分的過去時態(tài)都應(yīng)該改成一般現(xiàn)在時態(tài)。
其次,短語及各種搭配用法不當。如give up是放棄,這里只有“給”的意思,所以改成give;of discuss這里根據(jù)句意應(yīng)該是to discuss;assignment應(yīng)該是復(fù)數(shù)形式,和前面的tasks平行;not only...but also沒有用對。
把這些問題都改正一下,其實就是一個滿分的版本了:
Well, my favorite teacher is my English teacher in my high school, who has been teaching English for ten years. I like her mainly because her class is really interesting. I could really learn a lot in the class. I mean, she would spilt us up into several groups and give each group a specific topic to talk about; she also let us take part in in-class games where we could be rewarded, like getting a bar of chocolate or something if we win. We could remember all those English words and grammar while enjoying the games and stuff. Most teachers, however, will do all the talking in the class, which is boring and it seriously makes me feel sleepy.
加粗部分顯示了整個文章的邏輯:簡單又清晰。
下劃線部分能夠看出對人物的描述和對事情的細化。

對于這樣的題目,我們的破題方法和普通人的破題方法一樣。
對于名人的回答一般理由點可以從兩個方面展開:個人成就和個人品質(zhì)。
? 個人成就:如果是歌手,我們可以談?wù)搶]嫈?shù)目、粉絲數(shù)量、是否原創(chuàng)等;如果是演員,我們可以討論電影類型、表演特色、獲得獎項等。
? 個人品質(zhì):又回歸到了普通人的品質(zhì)中去,如a sense of humor, have responsibilities, easy-going等。

1. 便宜
It’s cheap and economical. It can help me save a lot of money to buy books or to travel with my friend Jane. Specifically, it only costs______Yuan to_________. However, if I want to________, it will cost me at least_____Yuan. I hate squandering, so I think it is awesome.
2.省時
It is convenient and I would be able to save tons of time. Specifically, it takes me only_____minutes to_______. However, if I’d like to______, I will spend at least_____hours. I think spending the time saved on reading books on history or chemistry/doing exercises is considered to be the better way for me to relax/learn more knowledge.
3.交朋友
I can make more friends in different background/from different cities/countries such as Japan, Canada and America/with the same interest. We could have pleasant conversation not only about the academic information such as history, biology and economics, but also about the international events. I can totally relax in such a......environment. I’m fascinated to the harmonious atmosphere which could make me refreshed and energetic. I can release my emotion, pressure and uneasiness through it, and have a temporary escape from the academic workload such as assignment and examination.

It’s good for my health. I can improve my speed, strength and flexibility. And I can also effectively lose weight and keep in good shape. Before……I often got sick, depression and hot temper, but now, everything is getting much better.
7.學習
I can have an easier access to a huge amount of knowledge and information ranging from history to biology. For instance, it’ll be easy for me to polish my speaking and listening skills if ……/in such a……environment/ by…….
