How did you come here today?

Well, I took the train here to this city last night, and the hotel I booked is quite close, only 10 minutes’ walk from here, so I just came here on foot.

Do you like traveling by bus?

Well, not really, ‘cause the bus in my hometown is always crowded, especially during summer. We are jammed together like sardines in a can, you know. When I’m on the bus, I could smell the sweat of the person next to me, it’s just terrible.

When was the first time you took a bus?

Wow, that was a long time ago. As far as I could remember, it’s when I was in primary school. My school was not that far from my place, only 3 bus stops away, so every day I just took the bus to school.

How often do you take buses?

Well, basically every day. Although I don’t like to take the bus, ‘cause (like I said) it’s crowded and smelly sometimes, the bus fare is pretty reasonable. So in order to save money, I would take the bus every time I go out.

Is it convenient to take buses in your city?

Yeah, sure. My hometown is not that big, and the bus routes basically cover all parts of the city, no matter where you want to go, the bus can take you there. The distance between two stops is not that long. So you see, it’s quite convenient to get around by bus.

Do you prefer taking buses or subway?

Well, my hometown doesn't have a subway system, but I did take the subway in some other cities. They are more spacious than the bus, and they are equipped with air-conditioning. The best part is, there’s no traffic jam down there. So I definitely prefer the subway.

Do people in your country take buses?

Yeah, it’s a common means of transport in China, just like in other countries. During morning and evening rush hour, the buses are always full of people going to or back from work or school.

In the future, do you think buses will still be popular?

Yeah, I think so, especially when the environmental issues are becoming worse right now, you know, the global warming, the climate change and stuff. Taking the bus is a much greener way to travel. The government would encourage people to use public transport more often in the future.

What is the most popular means of transport in your country?

Well, that depends on the distance we are travelling. If we want to have a short trip, the train or the high-speed rail would be our first choice, ‘cause it’s convenient and affordable. And for long-distance trips, we tend to take the plane, ‘cause it’s timesaving.

Is driving to work popular in your country?

Yeah, it is. There are countless private cars running on the road every day, and I guess that’s the main reason why the traffic condition has become worse and worse. We always get stuck in traffic jams during rush hour, and the cars are bumper to bumper on the road.

Do you think people will drive more in the future?

Well, actually I guess people would drive less in the future, ‘cause the traffic condition is so horrible today, it takes a lot of patience and good temper to drive on the road. Plus, people’s awareness of protecting the environment has been raised in recent years, so I believe more and more people would choose to go green/to have a greener lifestyle.

Would you ride bikes to work in the future?

Well, it depends on how far away my workplace is from my home. I mean, if it only takes me a few minutes to get to work by bike, I would definitely do it. However, if it’s far away, then I think it’s kind of a waste of time if I ride my bike to work.

Do you like to take public transport?

Well, like I said, I don’t like the public transport in my hometown, but I have to take the bus every day, you know, just to save money. But if they could improve the condition on the buses, like installing air-conditioning or making the bus more spacious, I would be willing to use public transport. After all, it’s much greener.

1. Do you think it is necessary to create a law?

The development of human race has already proved that a proper and sound legal system is required to maintain social security and it is the best symbol of a modern society.

If there is no deterrent force of laws and regulations, inevitably, the whole society will become chaotic or disorderly.

If every individual acts without considering other’s feeling, there will be much trouble, because the basic right of others can be easily violated and no one can be protected from doing so.

The social order can only be kept through well-rounded legal system.

The legal system is also contributing to the social justice and a more healthy society in the long run.

If most people are fully self-disciplined and well-educated, they can take full charge of their own behaviour and control themselves even in extreme conditions. In this sense, there is no need to establish strict laws and punishment to guide people’s behaviour. Well, this can only be achieved when human beings develop into a very advanced level, not in the present-day society.

2. Do you think the law is fair?

I don't think law is fair in most cases. It is even sometimes described as the game of the rich people. This is mainly because the final judgment of a case is largely determined by the process of trial, in which lawyer and judge play an indispensable role. The truth is that only the more wealthy side of the case can have the financial power to hire the most experienced and well-known lawyer and it is very likely that they also have a very good relationship with the judge. I’m not saying that the final judgment is wrong, but it is conceivable that the richer can have more advantages in the case.

When each law is introduced in the first place, they are devised to maximize the profit of the authorities and the majority of the citizens. So, in some situations, the profit of the minority may be damaged. Also, it is almost impossible to create a perfect law that can meet the requirement of each social class. At least, it has not been created until now.

The creation and implementation of a law has never been decided by only a few people, but it is done by a large number of experts and specialists in this field, with every respects taken into consideration. Besides, with the enforcement of the law, it is also being revised and more cases can be referred when the court judge the situation.

Even if it was not justice and perfect when first initiated, it can be gradually modified and generally speaking, it can be regarded as a fair system.

3. Do we have to be punished if we don’t follow the law?

If someone violate the law without being punished, the existence of law will be defeated. In the long run, people will lose their faith in the legal system and do whatever they like according to their own will.

It is also the best way to deter the potential criminals.

To correct the mistakes and be prevented from re-commit the crime.

Solace the victims/

It depends on many factors, including age and motivation.

For some teenager criminals, who do not have the ability to distinguish right from wrong and cannot be fully aware of their own behaviour, they should be punished in a more gentle way, such as being sent to some educational courses or forced to participate in community services, instead of being sent to jail.

Also, if those who commit crime on the condition of being violated or being threatened with death, they should not be punished or at least the penalty should be reduced.

Sometimes, we have to take into consideration the particular historical background and social impart of some cases, especially those relating to politics and wars. It is every sensitive and complicated to make a sound judgement of who should be punished and how they should be punished. So probably, in order to maintain the stability of the society and reduce the chain effect of some events, people involving in the case can be treated lightly.

4. What’s the difference between a police officer and a lawyer?

Both police officers and lawyers are very important parts of the legal system.

The police officers are in charge of arresting the suspect and keep the social order/ deal with emergencies and fight against social evils

They also have the responsibility of collecting the evidence in the case.

They are part of the civil service system, so they are directed work for the government, for the society and for the people. They must keep value neutrality, that is to say, they should keep as objective as they can.

Lawyers, broadly speaking, are a specific type of profession. They are only the representative of their client, so no matter whom they represent in court, they have to try their best to maximize the profits of their client and try to reduce the punishment of the defendant.

In this sense, they are less value neutral than the police officer, but they have more decisive role to play on the final judge of each case.

What's your favorite color?

語料:red… one of the brightest colors… passion… put me in a good mood… clothes… vivid… go well with… look great in…

blue… light blue… match my skin… sportswear… look pretty on me…

don’t know… care much about… dark colors… black… doesn’t show the dirt... hate doing the laundry…

I would say I like red the best, mostly because it’s one of the brightest color and represents passion or something. Anyway, it seems that the vivid color can usually put me in a good mood. I guess that’s why I love wearing red clothes. And of course, red goes well with my skin.

I don’t know… I’m not sure, really. Actually I never care much about colors of my clothes. If I had to choose one, I guess I would probably go for the dark colors, something like black or dark grey, because you know, they don’t show the dirt easily. To tell you the truth, I really hate doing the laundry.

Are there any colors you don't like?

語料:… pink… pinkish red… can’t bear it… girly… won’t even touch it… put up with…

… something between… lighter/darker… mixture of… look like… similar to… old-fashioned… out of style… never dress myself in…

Colors I don’t like… let me see. I’ve never thought about that before, but .. I suppose I would never put up with pink, or any pinkish red. I just can’t bear it because it’s too girly. You know, if I had anything in that color, either a piece of clothing or a daily item, I guess I would never touch it.

Well, I don’t think there is a color that I really hate, but I don’t appreciate the color… how can I put it… it’s something between light brown and dark yellow. It looks like a mixture of them and it’s similar to the color of dirt or soil… if you know what I mean. Anyway, I guess I will never dress myself in such colors because it’s really old-fashioned.

Are colors important in your everyday life?

… pay much attention to… particular about… affect my emotions… bright colors… put me in a good mood… feel terrible… spend a lot of time in front of the mirror… shopping for clothes… hesitate a lot… repaint my room…

… care much about… mind… in style… go well with … picky… bear with it… not much of a problem…

Yes. Actually I pay much attention to the colors in my life because I believe they can significantly affect my emotions. For example, bright colors can generally put me in a good mood but some dark colors just make me feel terrible. So, I’m quite particular about colors and that’s why I often spend a lot of time in front of the mirror when I go shopping for clothes and I hesitate a lot before repainting my room.

No, not really. In fact I don’t care much about colors. To tell you the truth, when I shop for clothes, I don’t even mind whether the color is in style or not. I don’t know whether they go well with my skin either. I’m not picky about that at all. Whatever it is, I can bear with it. It’s not much of a problem.

Were colors important to you when you were a child?

… hard to please… balloon… keep crying and screaming…

… good boy… willing to put on…

Well, I don’t remember that clearly, but my parents used to tell me that I was quite hard to please. I mean, I was quite particular with colors. For example, when they bought a balloon for me, I would ask for a specific color. If they didn’t get the right one, I would keep crying and screaming.

When I was a child… let me see… as far as I remember, I wasn’t choosy about colors. In fact, I was willing to wear anything that my parents bought for me. In retrospect, some of the items they bought for me were in outdated colors. But I accepted all of them.
