　　The human race has entered a completely new stage in its history. However, quite a few older people believelife was better before than it is now.As for me, I can hardly share this point of view.

　　Admittedly, nowadays, in this highly competitive society people have to work even harder and learn much more in order to adapt to the fast pace of modern life. Development in industry has also caused much pollution. And new inventions have put many people out of work.However, it cannot be denied thatpeople are living a life that could never be dreamed of twenty years before.

　　First, we can observe easily that, currently, people, especiallythe old ones,have benefited a lot fromthe rapid social progress.In the past, houses were small.But it was not unusual thatpeople of 2 or 3 generations lived under the same roof,which meansextreme crowdedness and inconvenience.By contrast, nowadays, housesare not onlybigger,but alsoequipped with electric appliances,which meansthe elderly's life is much more comfortable than what it used to be previously.

　　Second, it might also be noted thatpeople can get sound health services at present.In the past, ailment, such as pneumonia and flu, might lead a sufferer to death.However, today, thanks tothe sophisticated medicine, many kinds of diseases, including cancer, can be relieved, or even be cured totally.So we can say thatthe development in medicine has helped to make people live a longer and healthier life.

　　To sum up, we should not deny thatthe elderly might have better lives in some aspects in the past.However, on the whole, we can see thatthe life at present is better than that in the past.It is suggested thatthe younger generation should attach much importance to the old people's living, not only physical but also mental to make sure they can enjoy their post-work life happily and at ease.
