In this day and age, there are a variety of athletic activities individuals can engage in, ranging from traditional sports such as basketball and football to extreme sports including bungee jumping and skydiving. Whether or not certain athletic activities ought to be prohibited due to their unsafety will be further discussed.
In terms of restricting unsafe athletic events, it would certainly lead to fewer injuries and people being unnecessarily harmed. A handful of sports such as ultimate fighting or boxing completely disregard the sanctity of human life in the name of competition and athleticism. There are also dangerous sports that involve animals, specifically bullfighting, that continue until this day, which results in the slaughter of the bull at the end of the match. These types of activities do not have any place in a civilized society and utterly disrespect ethical standards.
On the contrary, there is a group of individuals who believes that sports should not be restricted no matter how unsafe they are. Willing participants have the right totake risks and put themselves in harms way as much as they desire. People have control over their own bodies and minds whereby they are capable of making choices to engage in all kinds of sports. Furthermore, thrill seekers actually enjoy putting themselves in precarious positions as they can experience feelings they have never felt before.
